In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with the scriptwriter who passed it on to the director. She then created plans for pre-production, production and post-production, and after this linear and sequential genesis, the film premiered.
So the story used to go. But not anymore.
These days, an increasing number of films spring from not a script but a ‘story world’ within which several narratives may develop. And in creating the story world, the production designer has taken centre stage, which is why this special issue of Kosmorama takes production design as its theme.
In the introduction, guest editors Jakob Ion Wille and Eva Novrup Redvall present the field of production design studies, preview the articles in this issue, and problematize the fate of production design teaching in Denmark;
