Jamaican Jazz Legend

Coleridge Goode: A Celebration
The Definitive Lord of the Lower Frequencies

We've got a sizzling hot Autumn Season coming up with lots of fantastic events to showcase some of the stunning music being produced by our talented artists on both the professional and development sides of Tomorrow's Warriors. We hope you'll be able to come along to as many of these events as possible but, among
the many musical gems, we urge you to join us for the centrepiece of our Autumn programme which offers a Once In A Century opportunity to be part of a very special celebration!

Coleridge Goode - A Celebration

Friday 21 November | 7.45pm | £10/£20
LONDON  Purcell Room @ Queen Elizabeth Hall

The end of November is fast approaching, as is the
100th Birthday of the great Jamaican jazz bassist, Coleridge Goode. Our artistic director, Gary Crosby has known and been mentored by Coleridge for 30+ years and believes there is no better time to host a public celebration of this truly great musician.

Join Gary and his stellar band - featuring Byron Wallen and Omar Puente - for an enthralling evening of
live music, interwoven with conversation, readings, photographs and film. Gain from the artists and special guests a fascinating insight into the world of a musician whose life began just a few months after the outbreak of the First World War one hundred years ago!

From Django Reinhardt to Joe Harriott, from Leslie ‘Jiver’ Hutchinson to Michael Garrick – even taking in The Goon Show along the way – Coleridge occupies a special place in jazz history. Never bound by style or genre, he made a crucial contribution to Joe Harriott’s free jazz experiments, and continues to be a source of inspiration to successive generations.

Joining the musicians on stage are a panel of fascinating, knowledgeable, and entertaining people whose paths have crossed with Coleridge's at various points throughout his life. Our panel chair - journalist and broadcaster Kevin Le Gendre - will call upon the beautiful vocalist Elaine Delmar, Coleridge's biographer Roger Cotterrell, broadcaster and jazz historian Alyn Shipton, saxophonist Denys Baptiste, Goode family friend Colleen McIntyre and, of course, Gary Crosby to shine a light on the life and contribution of this great bastion of UK jazz.

This truly is a 'once in a century' opportunity to honour a genuine living legend. Don't miss it!

Tomorrow's Warriors presents...Nérija

Thursday 20 November | 5.30pm | £FREE
LONDON The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall

What a fabulous band we have in Nérija! This septet of highly individual young women - developed within the Tomorrow's Warriors Young Artist Development Programme - just grow in confidence and musicality every time they perform. They're recently back from a show in Germany, so they'll be champing at the bit to maintain the vibe, showcasing some of their new and original pieces. The more they work together, the more coherent their sound, and so we're very excited about the great promise these young women bring to our jazz scene

We think they're impressive, and believe you will too! Take the opportunity to get along to see them now, before you have to start paying to do so!

Tomorrow's Warriors presents...Ezra Collective

Friday 21 November | 5.30pm | £FREE
LONDON The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall

Since winning the Yamaha Jazz Experience Best Jazz Ensemble in 2012, and the Best Jazz Combo prize at the 2013 National Festival of Music For Youth (won in 2014 by their colleagues, Troy), Ezra Collective has gone from strength to strength. Over the summer, they were hitting up some of the festivals, and buildling up their jazz and afrobeat chops. It's certainly paid off as these exciting young lions have been able to hold their own as the support for two Jazz Jamaica shows - first at the Imperial Wharf Festival, and then on the main stage at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club. Applying their knowledge of jazz to a combination of musical genres including afrobeat, reggae and hip-hop, they blend exciting cocktails of highly highly accessible jazz.

These guys are definitely going places, and we've been awed by their rate of progress! Go see, and catch them while you can!

After performing together just twice, they earned a place in the National Festival of Music For Youth Finals this summer. Their third ever performance blew the judges away (all professional musicians) and earned them the prize for Best Jazz performance in the Jazz Ensembles & Combos categorywhich included a performance in the Schools Prom at Royal Albert HallLondon!

So now they are gearing up to
be amongst the 3,000 talented musicians performing this week at this iconic London venue (10-12 November). Don't miss this fresh young group as they take command of the arena. They will blow your mind! Go ahead... Buy your tickets now!
