SCNSW October Newsflash

Wednesday, 1 October 2014

Grüezi members and friends!

"Fun Fact: Swiss Brown cows are the oldest of all dairy breeds, dating back to 4,000 BC. They are also one of the top producers of milk, on average producing about 26,300 litres in their lifetime." extract from: thecattlesite.com, image credit: Polo Scher.

On the weekend of 27-28 September 2014, Swiss Club presidents and representatives of other Swiss groups in Australia all met for the first time at the Swiss Embassy in Canberra. The purpose of this meeting was to communicate the functions and activities each Club or group have been involved in recently, and to discuss the future of Swiss Clubs in Australia. This meeting allowed for discussion and improvement of affiliations, in hope of a more unified Swiss community that expands across many states and territories of Australia. The organising committee and all presidents were in favour to stage such a meeting every two years, with the next meeting to be held in Melbourne, Victoria. Mr Marcel Stutz, Swiss Ambassador to Australia, and Mr Ersnt Steinmann, Consul-General of Switzerland in Sydney, were honoured guests and speakers at the event and we thank them both wholeheartedly for their time and generosity. We would like to thank Roland Isler, from the Council of the Swiss Abroad and Beat Knoblauch, ASO Delegate Sydney, for their amazing efforts to organise this wonderful event. We would also like to thank the President of the Swiss Club in Canberra, Hein Buettikofer, for his cooperation and organising some events.

Photos from this event will be posted shortly – please watch this space.
