Welcome to the Wild Times

This quarterly e-newsletter keeps you up to date with our news and developments from Wild Horizons.

2014 seems to be moving full steam ahead, business is thriving at the moment with hotels and lodges at some of the highest occupancy levels we’ve seen in quite some time. The increased visitors are keeping us busy on the ground with transfers, tours and the host of exciting adventure activities we offer. Victoria Falls recently hosted the 34th SADC Heads of State and Government Summit, to which 13 of the 15 heads of states in SADC came in person and 2 were represented by their Vice Presidents. The successful hosting of another such event exposes Victoria Falls to such an array of Regional Heads of State, which will no doubt carry positive and far-reaching effects into the future.

Victoria Falls is well and truly back on the map all thanks to you and your continued support!! Development continues to move forward at the new terminal at the Victoria Falls Airport and the recent introduction of Fly Africa’s low cost airline is boosting arrivals even further.

We have loads of exciting new projects on the horizon and can’t wait to share these with you in this issue. Happy reading and remember we’re here to serve you, so if there’s anything you need, or if you have any suggestions or recommendations, we would love to hear from you.

Wishing you all the best for the months ahead.

Good Tasting Extensions at The Lookout

Nothing beats a panoramic view, and a vivacious menu!

Wild Horizons will soon commence construction of a 40 seater restaurant and cocktail bar which will be perched on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, offering spectacular views of the gorge, the bridge and the spray of the Falls. "360° Lookout - Bistro on the edge" will offer a  simplistic but totally unique menu, and in addition to serving imported wines and spirits, there will be a lively cocktail menu.

The new bistro will enhance the current facility where the Wild Horizons high-wire activities operate from. Clive Bradford, Wild Horizons operations director, has commented that there will be no interruption to gorge-side activities during the construction process, which is expected to be complete in early 2015.

The new Spa at Imbabala is now open!

The spa at Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge is now open and offers a range of spa treatments to guests in a tranquil, serene setting overlooking the Zambezi River. There is a qualified beauty therapist on site, and a range of beauty and skin care products on offer. The spa building is set away from the main lodge area, and is partially open to allow for a soft breeze to filter through. Treatments available include manicures, pedicures, massages and skin therapy.

Zambezi River Report: Low Water Rafting to start as early as next week

The river levels are dropping by an average of 1cm per day, which will see the start of the low water rafting season commence once the levels have dropped enough, which is predicted to be next week sometime.

Reconissance missions have been conducted, and the guides say that we can expect to start doing the low water run from rapid number 1, at the boiling pot as early as Monday - but this is of course water level dependent. We will inform our agents with a newsflash once the start of the season is confirmed.

With the low water season comes excellent opportunities to embark on a magnificent multi-day rafting adventure, with multi day trips of either 2 or 4 nights on offer. You can read more about this fantastic experience here on our blog (www.wildhorizonsvicfalls.blogspot.com).

The Health Bridge Private Hospital Opens in Victoria Falls

The Health Bridge Private Hospital has now opened in Victoria Falls, a welcome addition to the town's facilities. As with any private health facility, pre-approval of patient's medical cover is required, but Dr Manyise, the owner assures us that the process is fast and efficient.

The facility is clean and attractive, with state of the art equipment and friendly nursing staff - and includes a fully equipped maternity ward.

Goldfish - The Dynamic Duo to Rock The Vic Falls Carnival on New Year's Eve!

The Jameson Vic Falls Carnival, rated by CNN as one of the top 7 African Music Festivals, is coming to Victoria Falls for it's third year. Goldfish, the headline act, are a dynamic saxophone / DJ duo from Cape Town that have seen huge international success over the years after having released 6 albums, and a large number of hit singles. It is very exciting to be able to welcome them to Victoria Falls for this year's 3 day festival over New Year. The duo, Dominic Peters and David Poole, create dance music containing elements of jazz and African music, combining live instruments like double bass, saxophones, keyboards, flute, and vocals with samplers, effects and synths.

Also performing at the carnival, amongst others, is Zimbabwean Legend Oliver Mtukudzi, along with South African pop band Beatenberg.

Wild Horizons is the official activities partner of the Jameson Vic Falls Carnival.

The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust darts and removes a snare from an unlucky buffalo, as elephant back safari guests look on!

The buffalo was un-harmed and rejoined his herd shortly after coming around.

The poor beast would have suffered a slow and painful death due to infection, if these vets hadn't intervened!

Progress Update: The Elephant Camp West
