This time: 50 groups and counting, tailor-made prenatal support and Small Talk, the BCT magazine. Plus, of course, upcoming events.

The BCT: 100% run by volunteers

The Brussels Childbirth Trust (BCT) has been offering peer-to-peer support and friendship to families and expectant parents for over 35 years. This is only possible because of the wonderful volunteers who give their time, effort, knowledge and expertise to the BCT and all the great events, activities, information, groups, social networks and services provided.

The topics of this BCT Newsletter are the result of our volunteers's work. They are the BCT’s major donors. Their gift is time, not money. And we all know how precious time is.

Over 50 groups and more to come…

There’s no doubt, social media is key for communication nowadays. That’s why the BCT is very active, for example with its popular Facebook group. But this cannot replace the importance, necessity and fun of direct social contact – especially, of course, for children.

The BCT is a hub for social activities. Babies, toddlers, young and older children, parents and parents-to-be: each of our members can find an interesting activity to suit their needs in one of the over 50 groups. These playgroups, interest, social and support groups are hosted centrally in one of our venues or locally in and around Brussels.

All BCT-groups are entirely run by enthusiastic volunteers. They are based on the ideas of members; everything is possible! Latest examples are the “CCC-Cooking Class for Children” which is aimed at older children and combines a children’s activity with a passion for food. Or the brand new Feeding Drop-in Café where young parents can have a chat and meet members of the BCT feeding support team.

BCT Prenatal Courses

Expecting a baby is one of life’s most exciting periods, but it’s not without its anxieties and many open questions for every parent-to-be. But without doubt, for newcomers in a foreign country, it can be an even more anxious time. Even for those already well-established it can be quite daunting!

That’s why the BCT Prenatal Courses are such a success. Led by qualified and experienced prenatal teachers, the courses offer an ideal environment for small groups of prospective parents to learn more about pregnancy, birth and parenting in Belgium.

The courses are tailor-made to give pregnant women and their partners information and practical tools to help them make informed decisions and to communicate more confidently with health professionals as well as to cope with the challenges of early parenthood. They also provide an excellent opportunity to meet other parents-to-be, build support networks and make lasting friendships. The BCT runs courses for first-time parents as well as refresher courses on a regular basis.

You can find more details about our prenatal courses on the BCT website.

Small Talk Magazine – a window into family life in Belgium

“My magazine is already worth my membership fee!”

A statement, we often hear about Small Talk, the official magazine of the BCT. Small Talk is issued six times per year to all 1,200 BCT member families.

Each issue includes tips for family outings in Brussels and Belgium, details on BCT events and latest news from the BCT-groups. Regular reports from our support teams reflect on various topics of pre- and postnatal care. Articles on parenthood, life style and other family-related issues complete the listing. Most writers and contributors are BCT members who volunteer their time to share their expertise and experience in various fields.

The Small Talk magazine is also an attractive, targeted and efficient advertising tool: By placing an advert in Small Talk, companies and other organisations can reach an international audience of expats and a consistent flow of new families arriving and settling in Belgium seeking practical information on family life.

Find more information about advertising in the magazine and how to order a trial copy on our website.
