It is 12 months since Max Allen tasted the 2019 APOGEE Pinot Noir. In that time this seductive wine has become more complex with notes of deep blueberry conserve and gamey overtones of good charcuterie. If you are lucky enough to still have some 2018 ALTO Pinot Noir to make the comparison with this 2019 you will see the wines are a pigeon-pair in aroma profile; on the palate the 2018 is tauter and racier, while the extraordinary mid-palate fleshiness of the 2019 stands out. Both wines have many good years ahead!

Tasting Notes

APOGEE Deluxe Vintage Brut 2016
100% Single vineyard. Alc.12.5% (Pinot Noir 39%, Chardonnay 53%,          Pinot Meunier 7.7%). Now drinking very well, very poised, with distinctive APOGEE Lebrina terroir character.
"Very complex bouquet, with spiced strawberry fruits on the finish."
James Halliday Top 100, Weekend Australian. 97 Points.
Wine Club Price $56.70

APOGEE Deluxe Vintage Rosé 2018
100% Single vineyard. Alc.12.5% (Pinot Noir 79%, Chardonnay 16%,          Pinot Meunier 5%).
Emerging as another great example of this unique single-vineyard wine. Spicy cherry and rose nose followed by a rich and precise palate, rose and cherry. Promising vintage.
Wine Club Price $67.50

APOGEE Alto Pinot Gris 2020
100% Single vineyard. Alc.14.0%.
Richest since 2016 with APOGEE's distinctive ripe pear and floral notes (musk, rose petal), pale green-gold, and a palate rounded by secondary fermentation. It is unctuous on the finish, tightened by some firmness from skin contact.
"Benchmark cool-climate pinot gris that sits firmly on the Alsace side of the gris/grigio spectrum."
Winsor Dobbin, On the Road Again.
Wine Club Price $39.50

APOGEE Alto Pinot Noir 2019
100% Single vineyard. Alc.13.5%. 100% French oak (Clones 777, 521, 115).
Unusual to have such richness of fruit coming from a very cool vineyard. The colour is classic Burgundian, the aroma redolent of dark berry compote and undergrowth, and the palate is round and luscious.
"Succulent black cherries and redcurrants tumble out of the glass and into your mouth, followed by a flood of fine savoury tannins that flows across the tongue." Max Allen, Australian Financial Review
Wine Club Price $56.00

April 12th: the harvest crew at APOGEE are filling a megabin with textbook bunches of  very ripe Pinot Noir clone 777, the major component of the promising 2021 vintage Alto Pinot Noir.

2021 Vintage

APOGEE's 2021 harvest is now safely tucked away and we are very pleased with the first tasting of the new wines. The 2021 Pinot Noir, which mainly comprises the 777 clone, shows some special promise. A full account of the vintage is available on the APOGEE website.
