● Coronavirus/COVID-19 Update ● Where to from here? ●

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As many of you are aware, the ECU and UNCA District events have now been postponed until further notice to contain the spread of the ongoing Coronavirus/COVID-19.

Though we are saddened by this news, we believe that the commitment to public safety and to the safety of all FIRST participants is paramount in this situation and our thoughts go out to the UNC system leaders who are not making these decisions lightly. Our season is not over but for the time being, we are waiting on further communication and a safe setting before it can continue.

If you are an NCSSM student who was planning to attend the ECU event then please make sure your parents are aware of the current situation and you have a plan to obtain a ride home from NCSSM per NCSSM's policy.

Where to from here?

There is a good chance you will have questions, concerns, frustrations, and more.  We don't have answers yet about when the events might be held, where they might be held, any refunds we might or might not be able to provide, or much else.  We are happy to try and answer questions if you have them or if you just need to talk to us about how you are feeling.  Chances are, we share some of those feelings and we are happy to listen.  What we can say:
  • The lab will be closed after tomorrow and Friday's regular meetings in accordance with NCSSM's policy and until further notice.
  • If you are feeling sick or have been sick this past week then do not come into the lab.
  • Hour requirements are suspended as of right now.
  • We are grateful for every single student that has been on the team this season and want them to know how proud we are of all of the work they have put into the robot and team.
  • We are going to do everything we can to make sure our robot sees a competition field as soon as we can do so safely.
  • When we have news to provide about events, we will do so via these emails and in the team's Slack and will make new signups available as soon as possible.
  • Keep an eye on Slack as we can still do quite a bit as a team and will use it for communication and ongoing projects (More whitepapers anyone?).

Questions?

As always, if you have any questions, please send an email to mentors@team900.org.
