The e-Professional

Volume 1                                          September 2013

Welcome to the first edition of EGEA's e-newsletter! We are working hard to find new ways to connect with you.  Please feel free to give us feedback or ideas!

Not sure who your EGEA site rep is? Check the list to find out: Click HERE.  Sites can have one rep for every 15 members at your campus.

This year EGEA Reps will be working in a new and expanded capacity as we work to collaborate at school sites to implement the new Common Core State Standards.  Each site should appoint an "Academic Rep" who will collaborate with site administrators as sites develop their plans.

If you are interested in joining your site rep team let us know, we are glad to have you.

September Spotlight

Mary Scott

EGEA Executive Board K-3 Rep
Community Outreach Board Liaison

In an effort to help members know their leaders, The Professional will spotlight a different person each month as part of our newsletter.  For September we spotlight Mary Scott who currently serves as the K-3 Executive Board Representative and Community Outreach Liaison to our Executive Board.  Learn more about Mary HERE.

Currently Mary is leading EGEA’s participation in the Giant Pumpkin Festival.  One of EGEA’s long-term goals is to increase our community presence.  This family oriented Elk Grove festival is a great place to interact with and educate our community about our association as well as important issues affecting their students.  At the EGEA booth, children will be able to play a game and create a craft while parents pick up information about children’s education and health issues.

Please sign up using this LINK for one (or more) hour long shift.  Your participation is greatly appreciated!

will be coming back to Sacramento for a speaking engagement at Memorial Auditorium on September 27th from 6:30-8:30. Tickets are available for $5 at the EGEA Office or through your site rep.

Back to school reminders:

  • Catastrophic Leave Bank: The last day to enroll is October 1st. Forms can be found at your school site office, the EGEA Office, or the District Human Resources Department.
  • Disability Enrollment with The Standard: New hires are eligible for open enrollment (without medical proof) which must be completed within 90 days of your employment start date. Remember that you must re-enroll if you have taken a maternity or leave of absence. Current employees can enroll at anytime but must complete the medical form. As a reminder, State Disability Insurance does not apply to public school educators, which is why CTA has endorsed this product for our members. You can request a brochure by contacting Dayna at the EGEA Office. Please include your name and school site in your e-mail.
  • Medical Plan Enrollments: If you are a new hire, you have 30 days to enroll in a medical plan.  Otherwise you will be forced to wait until open enrollment at the end of the year.   Contact Payroll @ 686-7778 to enroll.
