Apply Now for MICA's MA in Social Design Program
Apply to the Master of Arts in Social Design (MASD) at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), an intensive 1-year graduate program offering a human-centered, experiential, and interdisciplinary approach to understanding and addressing the challenges facing society.
Grounded in a philosophy of practice-based learning, the curriculum introduces students to a broad framework for social design, exposes them to a variety of methods and models for social impact, and prepares them with a core set of skills necessary to pursue professional opportunities upon graduation.
Center for Social Design
MICA’s MASD graduate program is uniquely positioned within the Center for Social Design, an interdisciplinary center dedicated to demonstrating the value of design in addressing complex social problems, and to preparing the next generation of creative changemakers. Students enrolled in the MASD graduate program have the opportunity to be exposed to and participate in a variety of initiatives within the Center with community partners working across diverse contexts, disciplines, and themes. The MASD program shares space with our practice based studios, postgraduate fellows program, and various new initiatives and partnerships.
The Center for Social Design is located within MICA’s recently renovated and expanded Fred Lazarus IV Center for Graduate Studies located in the heart of Baltimore’s emergent Station North Arts & Entertainment District. The Center consists of an open, 4,000 square-foot collaborative studio space. MASD students each receive a dedicated studio work space in our studio, with 24-7 access to the state-of-the-art equipment, classrooms, and common areas.
