Apply Now for MICA's MA in Social Design Program
The Master of Arts in Social Design (MASD) at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) is the first degree-bearing program of its kind. MASD is an intensive one-year graduate program that introduces students to a broad theoretical framework for social design, exposes them to a variety of models for social impact, immerses them into the human-centered design process, and prepares them with a core set of skills necessary to pursue professional opportunities in the practice of social design.
Center for Social Design
The MASD graduate program is uniquely positioned within the MICA Center for Social Design, an interdisciplinary center dedicated to demonstrating and promoting the value of design in advancing equity and social justice, and to inspiring and preparing the next generation of creative changemakers.
Students enrolled in the MASD graduate program have the opportunity to be exposed to and participate in a variety of initiatives within the Center with community partners working across diverse contexts, disciplines, and themes. The MASD program shares space with our award-winning practice based studios, postgraduate opportunities, and various new initiatives and partnerships.
The Center for Social Design is located within MICA’s recently renovated and expanded Fred Lazarus IV Center for Graduate Studies located in the heart of Baltimore’s emergent Station North Arts & Entertainment District. The Center consists of an open, 4,000 square-foot collaborative studio space. MASD students each receive a dedicated studio work space in our studio, with 24-7 access to the state-of-the-art equipment, classrooms, and common areas.
The Center for Social Design is celebrating ten years of pioneering work in social design education and practice! Read more about our current activities, including ongoing projects and partners, awards, alumni news, events, research, etc. in our most recent Autumn 2018 newsletter.
