A Seaside Inspired Sales Office in Sanya

On the Chinese island of Hainan, just 112 kilometres northeast of the very popular beachside tourist town Sanya, Yung’s Enterprises has a multi-phased large scale residential development underway. Located on the Shenzhou Peninsula, where Yung’s Enterprise is one of three property developers there, the entire development project is 18 square kilometres with a GFA of around 4 million square metres. It comprises high-end residential buildings, shopping arcades, resorts, an international golf course, and a yacht club – all to be constructed in stages over a 17-year period.

MAP is providing advisory, master planning, architectural and interior design services for different components of the project, and has just completed the interior design of the sales office for the residential apartments.

The sales office is located in a three level village house just metres from the beach in Sanya. The first floor is the main sales and information area for prospective buyers, the second level is a VIP room for existing buyers with a ‘frequent flyer’ style transit lounge for customers waiting to visit the site and the third level is an administrative office. Double height space provides visual connections between the office and the lounge area.

MAP’s design intent is to showcase the developer's focus on design and quality construction and to provide the best product in its market. The palette of materials and colours chosen emphasise the purchase will be a holiday home investment in a sought-after seaside location.

The colour palette features seaweed greens, driftwood greys and beach sand whites. The ceiling pattern is inspired by sunlight on the sand in the shallows; feature walls are finished with a fine sand texture; a large custom designed rug uses water colour brush strokes in sea blues and greens washing over the sand.

Wall sculptures include a pattern of tiny barnacles and the scales of the spine of a fish breaching the surface of the water. The over-scale floor lamps have a shell motif base and fill the double-height space in the VIP lounge.

The white reception counters and administration desks are custom built and molded like a ship’s hull using Corian, the wooden sales booths take their shape from sails.

The showroom is in a high traffic area in Sanya between the main hotels and the beach, just off the public square. As the property is rented by the developer, the exterior solution needed to be something that could be re-instated easily. MAP proposed to wrap the facade in a vinyl signage system supported on a light steel frame which is flood lit at night. This very cost-effective solution makes the sales pavilion highly visible from the beach and surrounding roads.

Panacea Resort | Koh Samui

It can take years for a project to reach its fruition, where every detail has been realised and the final piece falls into place. Such is true for the MAP-designed group of five luxury villas in Bophut on the island of Koh Samui, overlooking Koh Phangan. The villas were designed from 2006-2008, built in three stages and completed in 2012. The five houses have just been rebranded ‘Panacea Resort’, with a philosophy to cure all of life’s stresses. The Villas can be rented out from $2,600-$12,000 USD a night.
