LAS = YOU.
YOU COMPLETE US!

The Lunenburg Art Society offers excellent programs.
We're in great shape financially. But money doesn't do the work.
We need Members to carry out the tasks..
Each item in this newsletter reflects work done by a handful of volunteers
 for the benefit of everyone.
We'd rather do it with you than for you.
What we can't do won't be done. Please pitch in.
Look for MESSAGES IN RED in the items below to learn what's needed.

Our annual Schools Show features work by art students in Junior and Senior High Schools in the South Shore Regional Centre for Education.
The work created by these emerging artists is truly amazing, and LAS is proud to give them this true gallery experience.
Show dates are:
March 5-8; March 11-15; March 16-22 (March Break week).
Each shift is from 12:00 - 5:00pm.
We staff this show only with volunteer Gallery Attendants.
Thank you to those who have signed up; we need more.

Please call Shirley Abberton asap at 902-766-4646 to choose your shift/s.
No sales will be processed in this show. Attendant duties include picking up the key, turning on the lights, greeting visitors, and locking up again.
Please sign up, maybe with a friend, and support young artists.

FROM THE MAILBAG
Anne Palfreyman tucked this lovely card in the envelope with her membership renewal. "Bring on 2020" indeed! Thanks, Anne!
Anne's note mentions that she's looking forward to PSOS, so --
WHAT IS PLAF?
We've run a plein air art event for decades, called Paint Sea on Site.
Beginning with this year's 20th Anniversary, we've changed the name to

PAINT LUNENBURG ART FESTIVAL / PLAF
to conform with similar plein air events all over the continent, including NS.
Getting used to the new name may be hard, but participating will be easy and fun!
The PLAF Committee is planning more changes to make the experience more enjoyable for artists, buyers, and the volunteers who run it.
Details coming soon. Registration opens April 1.
Can you help plan or work this event, a major source of income for LAS?
Contact Sharon Wadsworth-Smith, PLAF Chair, at wadsworthsmithart@yahoo.ca.
2020 PLANNING WORKSHOP
On February 6, thirteen LAS members attended an all-committees planning workshop. Short notice, illness, and winter weather reduced attendance, but those who came were engaged. The main take-away was that each task we do relates to the work of other committees, so communication is key.
Thanks to Heather Drysdale for organizing the workshop.
During 2020, committee chairs and our staff Administrator will meet together periodically so all will continue to share what's working and where we need more attention.
Guest presenter at the planning workshop was Emily Sollows from the Bluenose 100 committee.
In 2021 (not this year), Lunenburg and all of Nova Scotia will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the launch of the fabled fishing schooner Bluenose. Emily invited LAS to join in the celebrating. Our response was enthusiastic.
Would you like to help plan our involvement in that and other special Members shows? Please Join the Members' Gallery Committee.

OUR FIRST SHOW OF 2020: ALL MEMBERS, NO LIMITS!
Big or small, we'll hang 'em all (and display your sculpture).
PLEASE NOTE: If your art exceeds 48" in any dimension, please email info@lunenburgartsociety.ca with your measurements, and we'll let you know if there's room for it. Please don't register your art before March 15.
We'll remind you. We just want you to get ready.
Presenting Monthly Members shows takes lots of tasks: checking in the art, hanging the shows, preparing / serving light refreshments at openings etc.
Many hands make light work. Lend us your hands. Hit Reply and make your offer.
PLEASE HELP THESE ORPHANS
These Committees currently have no Chair to lead them. Most have willing volunteers continuing from last year, but they need someone to get them together and do the thing.
Can you help? Just hit Reply and let's discuss it.
  1. Gallery Attendants: URGENT. maintain and train the roster of volunteers
  2. Gifted Gift Shop - sourcing and stocking our fine art and fine craft shelves
  3. Marketing & Media - providing publicity support to our programs and shows
  4. ArtCaravan - organizing one or two pop-up art shows in rural communities
  5. Board of Directors - managing operations; someone with community connections
WE'RE NOT KIDDING
Last year, several members took on multiple tasks in order to accomplish our success (hear about it at the AGM). Some have had to withdraw for various reasons. We miss them. The best way to show our appreciation is to carry on - not with a few people taking on too much, but many people doing what they can. (If you are unable to help,we understand.) If members don't volunteer, some tasks just won't be done. Can you help your Society continue as The Art of the Community?
It's your Society. Show it some love.
Next issue: Leap Day. Are you in a show? Send us your news.
