Oh my! We hope all our members and friends survived Hurricane Dorian without injury or loss, though we know that basement studios are at risk in these events. A little water blew into the Gallery and was mopped up by a volunteer who came in to check on Sunday morning.
We were lucky. Whew!

EXHIBITIONS GALLERY PLANNERS
The Exhibitions Gallery Committee has begun to plan another season of excellence in visual arts. 2020 is already booked - they're looking at 2021.
Any artist (LAS members included) who does not have a permanent gallery in Lunenburg, is welcome to submit.
Information on submissions is on our website now. Deadline is April 30, 2020.
Exhibitions Committee members, still cheerful following a Saturday morning meeting at the gallery are (l-r): Elizabeth Maxner-Singer; Shirley Abberton (retiring); Elise Walmsley, incoming Chair; Penny Ridley; Healther Drysdale, outgoing Chair; and Laurie Swim.
RENT YOUR OWN GALLERY - HAVE YOUR OWN SHOW
LAS offers the gallery on a short-term, pop-up basis, to an artist or group of artists, for shows, workshops, classes or other art-related events,
November & December 2019.
No alcohol may be served to the public at these events.
Rentals are available to LAS Members only, i.e. the person signing for the rental must be a current LAS member who is connected in some way with the renting persons/organization.
See the Rental Agreement and other info on our website.
PSOS Artists: DID YOU
FORGET SOMETHING?

We called you. We emailed you.
And yet, the art some of you created at PSOS is still in our storage space/gerbils cage. Please make arrangements to pick it up on or before our last Intake Day, Sunday, September 29 at 3:30 pm.
Any art remaining at the gallery after that date will be put in a "make us an offer" bin, all proceeds for LAS.
Final notice.
MEMBERS' GALLERY: A REFRESHER
Our Members' Gallery is shared by 150+ members. To serve everyone fairly, there must be a few rules:
  1. All art must be Registered prior to Intake, and brought in on Intake Day so the hanging committee can get to work the very next morning to display each month's collection to best advantage.
  2. If you know you can't make a deadline you may appeal for special consideration in advance. We will try to accommodate you, but have limited ability to do so.
  3. If your art sells, we will contact you to replace it with another new piece that has not been shown in the gallery before. EXCEPTION: This year, several artists in the Exhibitions Gallery were attracted to join LAS when they came in on Outtake Day, and offered one of their works as their first MG entry for the coming MG show. We agreed to this as a one-time neighbourly courtesy to those guests / incoming members.
  4. How and when art is displayed in the MG is the jurisdiction of the MG Committee, Jan Pattison is Chair. Please contact Jan at Gifted@lunenburgartsociety.ca.
"WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME
ABOUT THIS ARTIST?"

Seven top reasons that people buy art (Google):

  1. They can identify with the artwork.
  2. There is an emotional connection.
  3. Purchases for social status
  4. Decorate their home
  5. They know and follow the artist
  6. Art Investments
  7. Art as Gifts
Can you help with 1, 2, or 5? Is there info about you on the back of your artwork? If not, how can buyers learn about you? Here are two easy ways:
* Get your Artist's Bio in the binder at the Gallery: read these guidelines, then send in your bio as directed, or bring it in on Intake Day.
* Meet customers in person - as a volunteer Gallery Attendant.
(I sold a sculpture last year because I was there to talk about the piece.
At ArtCaravan, my story about how I named the piece closed the sale.-JH)
Only a few Attendant opportunities remain: October hours 12-5.
Sat 12 Oct - Wes Lowe + YOU?
Sun 13 Oct - Lezlie Morgan + YOU?
Sun 20 Oct – YOU + YOU?
Sat 26 Oct – YOU + YOU?

Do schoolkids still get homework? Grownup volunteers do.
We're getting ours done, though, and we're expecting very good marks at the end of this season. Stay tuned.
Next Newsletter will be in the fall - Sep 27. Yup, it's coming.
