The Annual General Meeting was held this year on March 21, 2021 via ZOOM! A first virtual AGM and a great success without a hitch! Members came out to hear about the successes of 2020 and to encourage committee planning work for 2021.

All documentation supporting the 2021 AGM can be found here. The list includes AGM Minutes, Updated Bylaws, 2020 reports, Committee Report, Change of Commission Rate, and Election of Directors.

The following members were elected and reelected to the LAGS board:

Kathy Fidyk and Joanne Young - Continuing - 2020-2022
Les French and Jennifer Harrison - Reoffering - 2019-2021
Wendy Muise, James Gray and Margo Bradley  - New - 2021-2023

We thank all AGM participants!

LAGS Farewell & Welcome

This year, at the AGM in March, we said farewell to Jan Hull, our President extraordinaire. Jan took on the role in July of 2018 and proceeded to completely revamp the organization. She recruited some gifted talent to the board, dedicated thousands of hours and shepherded it to the efficient state it is in today. She somehow managed to pack about 5 years worth of work into two and we'll be rewarded by that often in the years to come. With her departure, we are confident knowing that LAGS is fiscally responsible and more member focused. For over forty years, LAGS was running according to traditions that seemed written in stone. It took a stone carver to show us how possible change really was. Her leadership, kindness and humor will be missed.

Also moving on from 2 years as board member is Jeff Gibson who as been generous with his skill and knowledge as a long time educator and from experience with other arts organizations back in Vancouver. Jeff was instrumental in ironing out our human resources policies and given us many hours hanging shows, scheduling volunteers and repainting the gallery walls. Jeff has also exhibited some beautiful artwork with us. We are sure he will enjoy continued success in his new role in the public school system. We just hope he will still make time for his art and continue to share it with us here.

It is with great pleasure that we introduce our new President Wendy Muise. Wendy has been a LAS member for many years and the Chair of the Gallery Committee since 2020. Wendy expressed interest in becoming a board member under last fall’s board shadow initiative open to all members to become more involved in the LAGS organization. As we neared the 2021 AGM she graciously volunteered to take on the position of president. As one of the former owners of the Black Duck, Wendy comes to us with a wealth of experience in retail, art and administrative skills. She practices her art full-time and is active in the art community in Lunenburg. We welcome the smooth transition from our past president.

The Lunenburg Art Gallery is trying something new! It is pleased to announce the first Small Stuff show opening May 7, 2021. Small Stuff features artists who work small or need to display work that does not hang on walls. Two shelving units will allow the space for a creative statement to be made and will be included in the art gallery's monthly shows.

We were able to secure
Rick L. Silas as our first Small Stuff artist!

Rick L Silas, of Silastial Glass Art, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, is a Master of Cold Worked Glass and a Creator of Cold Bent Glass. He has been upcycling waste tempered glass for over 40 years. His work is both two dimensional and sculptural.
He will be filmed May 20, 2021 for an art related show and will try to have the crew stop into the Lunenburg Art Gallery on that date - a great initiative for Rick and the gallery!

Spring Members Show a Success!

Our season opened April 3 with a full Spring Members Show featuring Water Works, a collaboration between the Mahone Bay Printmakers and the Ottawa-Gatineau Printmakers Connective. Although not over until the end of the month, the show entertained many visitors and was well received and enjoyed by gallery members and our featured printmakers.

Thank you everyone for a great turnout and a really big show!

Lunenburg Art Gallery Society was formed decades ago to have custody of the Earl Bailly Collection of art. You can learn about this remarkable artist on our website:

The Earl Bailly Collection Committee is currently updating records of the three dozen or so artworks in our possession. Then we will inventory the Bailly artworks of which LAGS is co-owner, stored or displayed at
Lunenburg Town Hall.

We invite anyone with knowledge of the correct materials for safe storage of artworks, or experience in cataloguing artworks, to let us know of your expertise. Perhaps we can accomplish this phase of the project “virtually”.  Please contact Jan Hull:

Given Covid-19 precautions, we’re working slowly, but surely. Once the collection is inventoried and stored, we’ll move on to sharing information about this interesting art and artist.

Lunenburg Arts Fest
Planning has begun on LUNENBURG ARTS FEST
the 20th annual live art festival (formerly Paint Sea On Site).
