OLY ARTS Loves Summer Youth Theater!


Olympia enjoys an embarrassment of riches when it comes to local acting talent, but every star owes his or her success to good teachers. Thus it's no surprise Oly also has some of the best youth theater programs around. Read our overview of summer youth theater programs here.

In the list below, we'll catch you up on youth theater performances, as well as live music and literary events in the South Sound area.

Festival on the Capitol Green: Classical 

The Olympia Symphony celebrates the 10th anniversary of Concert at the Capitol. This day-long event features a broad variety of musical and dance experiences, including flamenco, bon odori, samba and classical music performances by the Olympia Symphony and the Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (SOGO). 

When: 1-8 p.m., Sunday, July 31

Music in the Park: Classic Rock

The classic-rock band Blind Facsimile, aka Blind Fax, crafts tight harmonies, driving guitar riffs, and solid rhythm grooves to deliver its message.

This is an outdoor event: carry in chairs, a picnic basket and sunscreen, and you'll be set for a fun evening concert. 

When: 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3

Creative Colloquy Olympia

For the last two years, CreativeColloquy.com has published the work of South Sound writers. "CCOly" presents the work of published authors followed by open-mic sessions for new writers. This month's event, the first in Lacey, is hosted by OLY ARTS' managing editor (and author of two published novels), Christian Carvajal.

Summer youth theater performances in Olympia


Olympia has some of the best youth theater programs in the Pacific Northwest. This is a big week, as local Olympia youth theaters roll out their stage productions starting tonight.
 
Creative Theatre Experience's Shakespeare Spotlight proudly presents abridged versions of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night.
(Schoolhouse Rock Live! is on stage from CTE next week.)

Pacific Northwest Theater Co. (PNTC) presents three shows this summer: 
Seussical Jr.,
A Year With Frog and Toad Kids, and The Jungle Book

Apple Tree Productions showcases Seussical, based on the works of Dr. Seuss and starring youth aged 5-18. Apple Tree is also producing an abridged concert version of Evita, starring students 13-18.
