OK, so technically Bon Odori isn't a French salute, it's a style of dance. Be that as it may, mid-August is a wonderful time to find international culture and cuisine at venues right here in Olympians' backyard.

Bon Odori

Obon, the midsummer festival of the dead, is observed in Japanese-American communities all over America. It's a centuries-old celebration that features bon-style folk dancing, live music, taiko drumming, games and amazing food. Oly's festival is produced by the Olympia Japanese American Citizens’ League.

Taste of the Market

This is the primary fundraising event for the Olympia Farmers Market. A capacity crowd will enjoy a smorgasbord of the finest cuisine from dozens of local restaurants, bakeries, wineries, breweries and coffee roasters, all while relaxing to live music.

Books by the Bay

This mystery-themed dinner fundraiser is hosted by the South Sound Reading Foundation. The event features live music, appearances by New York Times bestselling author J. A. Jance and award-winning mystery writer Glen Erik Hamilton. Bid on fantastic travel adventures and enter the 50-50 raffle for a chance at half the pot. Note: OLY ARTS is a proud sponsor of this literary event.
