What a summer it has been! We are thrilled to re-introduce ourselves to you as Adam J. Lewis Academy, an independent, co-educational elementary school serving preschoolers through fifth graders. As we grow and add one grade per year, we will continue to provide a high-quality, creative curriculum with a continued focus on social emotional learning. Our small class sizes will ensure individualized attention, providing the opportunity to appreciate the WHOLE child and understand their greatest strengths and weaknesses.
Our preschool numbers are at capacity again. This year we have welcomed twenty eager learners to our program. They've been hard at work learning their daily routines and navigating their new-found independence.
Saba Pina and Doreen Davis have returned full-time to work their magic
Jen Bargas, Talli Connell and Libby Hibbs complete this incredible Pre-K team + are joining us part-time in the mornings
We are so thrilled to have this fabulous group on #teampreschool
We also are very excited to welcome our first kindergarten class and the incredible educators who have joined us this year.
Carla Patrona, our head teacher, has spent the past thirteen years at Pear Tree Point School. While there, she had the opportunity to teach all lower grades, but her love is kindergarten! We are lucky to have her sharing her time and talents with AJLA.
Widlaine Lamb joins us as the Assistant Kindergarten teacher. She has been a part of the AJL family for many years with one AJLP alumni and one current preschooler. Professionally, she joins us after ten years as a private pre-school teacher.
The kindergarten is off to a wonderful start!
In addition to our fantastic classroom faculty, we have added weekly music, physical education and art classes, as well as less traditional specials like cooking and African drumming to round out a full educational experience.
Mr. Steve, our longtime Music Together teacher, has already made his first visit and continues to be a favorite!
Mr. Henry, an African instruments teacher, comes once a week to teach us about the sounds and instruments of Africa.
Coach Steve will teach physical education twice a week, now that he has returned from his honeymoon - congratulations Coach Steve!
Miss Heather joins us to teach art. She also comes from Pear Tree Point and brings her enthusiasm and energy to us on Friday mornings!
"Tomorrow is today and children have only one childhood. We need to be giving them a healthy start, quality early childhood experiences, first-rate schools with first-rate caring and culturally sensitive teachers and administrators, and stimulating, high-quality out of school time programs so they can see their role models. We need to give them books that are diverse, so they can get hope from those books and see themselves in those books."
We begin our year in our "sweet little school house on Bridgeport's west side," but are pleased to report that renovations are well underway in our new location. We are hoping to give THANKS this November in our new classrooms!
