It has been a whirlwind first semester at Adam J. Lewis Academy! Our 31 students have adjusted nicely to their new classrooms, teachers and friends. We are dazzled by their boundless energy and thirst for knowledge - showing so much progress both academically and with understanding and regulating their thoughts and feelings.
We were excited to introduce a school-wide theme this fall into which both classes took a deep dive - we asked "what makes a community?"
For the preschoolers, the focus has been on community helpers and their different jobs.
The kindergarten class has turned the unit inward, working and playing together while helping and respecting each other.
Everyone islearning to recognize a community as a group of people that work together and care for one another with a common goal.
Every day our students arrive at school excited for what lies ahead - another adventure, another opportunity...the journey has begun!
“Rhythm is a heartbeat. It’s the first drum, a story in sound that reveals our imagination and celebrates our power. Rhythm is the multi-cultural common ground of the human family.”
—Tony Vacca, educator, World Rhythms
This fall, our students embarked on a very special musical journey. Led by Mr. Henry, they have been introduced to African drums. They also began learning about African masks. Once Mr. Henry shared his awe-inspiring collection with our students, they immediately set to work creating their own masks out of clay. The kindergarten class even took a field trip to the Fairfield Museum to see their incredible mask exhibit.
Now everyone is very excited to present their work next week on December 17th when both classes and their families will gather together for an evening of Dinner, Drumming + Art. Official AJLA Drumming T-shirts will make this celebration even more special! Please stay tuned for Instagram pictures of this wonderful event.

As we close out the calendar year and prepare for the winter ahead, we take time to reflect on what we have accomplished. For the past five years, AJL (first Preschool, now Academy) has worked to create a school where the playing field would be leveled...a place where a student can receive the highest quality education, regardless of their zip code. We are very proud of this AJLA community.
From our family to yours, we wish you peace and joy this holiday season. Here's to another incredible year!
