Museum Show, Comissioned Installation, Solo Show, and more...

Eric Valosin

My work is a contemplation of the techno-sublime; an unknowing of the ancient unknowable, thrust into the twenty-first century. Using light and projection with drawing, painting, and new media, I explore the potentials of mystical experience since postmodernism, in a world whose space is more often cyber than sacred and whose worldviews have begun to transcend conventional transcendence.

My projects merge the digital and the analogue to challenge the viewers’ perceptual expectations and interactions with mediation. With strategies of negation, paradox, and deconstruction, I make a radical (re)turn to the root of mystical experience, to open new meditative spaces for a radical new age.

July - Commissioned Installation and Events

Trinity United Church

Trinity United Church
118 King George Rd, Warren, NJ
July 6 - 27, Specific Dates below:

You may remember I gave a guest sermon at this church last year on the topic of art and faith. I have been invited back as the church's featured Artist of the Month in July to exhibit several of my 2-D works, as well as create a temporary, site-specific installation! There will be several accompanying events you won't want to miss:
  • Artist Talk and Reception: Sunday 7/20, following the 10:30am service.

  • Forum on Contemporary Issues of Art and Faith: Thursday 7/24, 7-9 p.m. - This will a presentation and a space for deep and earnest discussion about contemporary issues concerning the meeting of art and faith, and how we might continue to help reconcile the two. Bring an open mind and your thinking caps!

  • Contemplative Service: Saturday 7/26, 6-7 p.m. - I will be leading a meditation/contemplation service facilitated by my work. I invite you to come out and try experiencing the Divine in a new way!
A note to my non-churchgoing friends: I want you to feel comfortable to come even if you are not necessarily comfortable with the idea of church in general. I wholeheartedly endorse this church as a safe place for deep thinking and questioning. It is a smart, progressive congregation with many great things going on. It's known for its radical hospitality, inclusivity, and a history of supporting the arts, and ALL are welcome.
