2n TCI Australasian Cluster Conference focuses on clusters in global value chains

On 16-17 April 2015, over 60 cluster practitioners from Australia and New Zealand gathered for the second Australasian Cluster Conference to reflect on the role of clusters in global value chains.

Key messages coming out of the event include:

  • Understand that collaboration is not in everyone’s DNA, and work around it.
  • Look at opportunities to collaborate across sectors - inter-sectoral linkages can be critically important, but not readily apparent.
  • More work is needed to link with overseas clusters

TCI peers review the implementation of cluster policy in Catalonia

The second TCI peer review was held in October 2015 hosted by ACCIÓ, the Catalan Agency for Business Competitiveness. The expert team was composed of TCI members Madeline Smith, Ifor Ffowcs-Williams and Augusto Medina.

One of the positive aspects stressed by the experts was the continuity of the cluster policy as well as its evolution over the past twenty years despite the political changes. On the other hand, a number of challenges were also pointed out, for example, the need to improve coordination internally with other policies such as internationalization or innovation.
