New Hope Receives a $150,000 Grant
to Launch Food Co-op

New Hope Community Ministries to begin launch process for food cooperative that would provide low and moderate income residents greater access to affordable, healthy food
New Hope Community Ministries, A NJ Nonprofit Corporation, recently received a $150,000 grant from Richfield Christian Reformed Church, a dissolving congregation in Clifton, for “seed money” to begin the multi-year process of launching a food cooperative in Prospect Park or Haledon. The new community-owned cooperative would provide low and moderate income residents access to affordable, healthy food in an area with few nearby options. It also could provide struggling low income residents the means to purchase more food at significantly lower prices.
“A food cooperative would empower residents to have ownership in a business that provides the foods they choose, while building a greater sense of community,” explains Phil Beverly, Executive Director of New Hope Community Ministries. “We are grateful to Richfield Church for giving us the opportunity to begin the launch process.”
New Hope plans to use part of the grant to hire a business consultant, to conduct a market study and to begin building grassroots support for the co-op within the coming months.

Thank You, Friends!

Food pantry needed help. You helped.

In our last e-newsletter we put out the call for food donations, as the food pantry has been low on some items. We've gotten a great wave of donations, and we're so grateful!

Still, as 65%-70% of our food comes from individual donations, we still need you. Please contact Grace @ if you'd like to start a food drive. We always need: Healthy snacks, cereal, paper towels, tissue and all non-perishable food items.

Thank you for helping 125 families in Prospect Park and Haledon have more food to eat!
