Autumn Interclub titles

A remarkable final round with the prospect of two titles turning into three with maybe one more. M2 had a good final round winning 11/6 to wrap up the title by 8 points. W1 had an 8/4 win against the previous table leaders with Daniella being denied 17/15 at the death. They ended up tied with EE but will take the pennant on the head-head result. W3 won 8/3 to wrap up the title by 5 points.

And that just leaves M3 who lost heavily against the potentially title winning Henderson team but who had fielded an ineligible player (he finally made the grading list on Weds). Having played him at #1 all players will have played out of order likely meaning an 12/0 win to SP and the title. But yet to be confirmed....
League positions;
  • M1: 3rd
  • M2: 1st
  • M3  1st (provisionally)
  • W1: 1st
  • W2: 3rd
  • W3: 1st
Well done to all these teams and especially Graham, Sam, Shahrane'e & Rhys for their leadership. Commendably M1 & W2 finished third in their divisions after strong performances throughout the comp.

Here are the finalised squads;
W1: Sam (capt)/ Siri/ Laura/ Catie
W2: Sophie (capt)/ Daniella/ Kogi/ Darshana
W3: Janice (capt)/ Carmen/ Shahrane'e
W4: Tracey (capt)/ Misty/ Elaine/ Emily
M1: Ernie (capt)/ Brent/ Miguel/ Geoff/ Zac
M2: Graham (capt)/ Geoff M/ Matt M/ Hawley
M3:  Rhys (capt)/ Surya/ Laurie/ Alex/ Mark M + Mark L (reserve)

New members & grade improvements

A warm welcome to returning members Neil & Janine Tulloch who, back in 2008, co-managed the club's solitary interclub team in which Graham Ashworth also featured. They have also enrolled their two nephews providing a healthy boost to our membership and junior ranks.

Membership renewal always provides a challenge period for me with this year being no different. We customarily lose about a third of our membership due to relocation, injury or trialists and this year is no different. Notable amongst the departees is Chris Bullock who has moved to Leigh and opted to play for Warkworth, coincidentally  slotting into the team which drew 7-7 with his SP team this week. Chris has played for us for roughly 4 years and helped with a couple of iniatives including Racketlon which organsation he now heads as President. Thanks for your efforts Chris.

A special well done to Graham who, following a couple of interclub wins, has made it back to "C" grade, Maturing like a fine wine...

I'll run a refs session this Thursday at 6.30pm for those yet to gain their certification. Be good to get a couple more interclub players qualified before the table is updated on Fri 30 April. Please advise if you plan to attend,

Well done to Seb Nicholson who has used the long weekend to pass the exam.

Gear available

Catch me at the club if you'd like to check them out.

  • Grips (incl re-gripping): $5

An interesting week ahead as the renovations commence but this should not encroach too much on our regular activities. The following weeks will be more intrusive as we sacrifice two courts so be sure take advantage this week.
