Headline News

Annual club tournament (July 9/11)
A doubling of reservations in the past week to 31 entrants. Just a quarter of our own club members are enrolled for our only tournament this year and it would be great to see this increase. Enroll via this link.

Court renovations
Court 1 is now effectively complete and I just need to liaise with the builder to ensure that we have 3 courts in action for Monday night as they have minor mods to complete on the other courts plus the tidy up.

School holiday programme
Tarun and Surya have confirmed their availability as co-coaches so this is now scheduled for Weds 14th & 21st July, see further details on poster below. Get in quick to secure a place!

Local board presentation
Great to have Tracey in support at the meeting last Weds and she spoke well about the diversity of our membership. The message I received in return was a perceived need to create alternative uses for the courts. If any members have innovative ideas on this front please let me know. The board would also welcome our collaboration with the tennis club and confirmed that a $1.5m major renovation is scheduled for 2024/25. My view is that we have to earn that by positioning the club as a vital community hub for the local area..

INTERCLUB NEWS

This week features the top 4 semi finals for the pennant and it's great to see 5 of our 7 teams qualifying including all 4 ladies teams. Tomorrow night all 3 Monday night ladies teams are at home with Mens 2, who are also contesting the title, travelling to Devonport.

Here are the concluding league positions;
  • W1 - 2nd, take on the Remmers second team this week
  • W2 - 1st, have won every match but will be missing Sophie for the final
  • W3 - 3rd, vs Manurewa tomorrow, will need to reverse results against top 2 teams
  • W4 - 3rd vs Papakura tomorrow, also need to reverse results against top 2 teams
  • M1 - 6th vs Te Papapa, been competitive in every match in this tough league
  • M2 - 1st vs Devonport, the run-in will be tough and we're hoping Hawley can replace a likely absent Hixy
  • M3 - 5th vs old adversaries Henderson who finished bottom

New members & grade improvements

Welcome to Jayden Chen, another Chelsea student who has enrolled in anticipation of entering our tournament.

I look forward to supporting our ladies teams playing at home tomorrow night. Don't forget to get that tournament entry in!.

A Superchamps bulletin should be with you midweek as we approach the July 7th deadline for team enrolment.

Our club nights have been well attended recently aside from a slippage in Ladies night numbers; be good to see the organisers rewarded with a healthy turn-out and practice makes perfect!

Cheers
