Ladies night - Weds from 7pm Club night - Thus from 7pm
Club night revival
Rewarding to witness 17 players at our two club nights last week with the women once again outnumbering the guys. This turn-out would be the envy of most other clubs. Of two i can think of, Belmont have given up on theirs and Devonport disbanded it since the second lock-down. Do choose to come along as the variety of faces makes these nights the more successful.
Three team wins from four played this week despite two teams being a player short. Three rounds to go before the 1v2, 3v4 etc. finals and let's hope we retain momentum. Table positions and further details below.
New EFTPOS machine
I'm pleased to advise that our Payclip device is being replaced by a new terminal that connects with the cloud to bypass our woeful wi-fi connection. This will be at the club tomorrow ready for use by team captains who need to ensure that till receipts are retained and the machine returned to the charger.
School holiday programme - Weds 30 Sept 9-4.30pm
We're planning a one day activity day during the school hols, full details below.
Urban Myth # 8
This week I've included the first rules tip sourced from Squash Auckland and I intend to lodge others from the series in future weeks.
Club Social (mark on your calendar!)
Deferred again under Level 2, now provisionally Thursday Oct 8th.
Jono stood down at the AGM following a couple of years service as a committee member. I'd like to thank him for his wise counsel and energetic contribution during this period. Now in a new job and injured he is unable to continue with his responsibilities.
Currently we have 4 teams placed in the top 2 and heading for the pennant play-offs but of these both Graham and Alex's teams forfeited a match last week. I'm stepping into Graham's team to make up numbers tomorrow and Alex is back from injury but we would benefit from the availability of other graded players. RSVP if able to help. Impressive that both the above teams won despite the player handicap.
School holiday programme
Weds 30th Sept - 9 to 4.30pm
This will be an activity programme with less emphasis on squash than usual as most participants will be part of our regular group. So expect soccer, cricket and some indoor activities should the weather conspire against us.
In the case of regular particupants it will be free in exchange for missed sessions in term 3 but for others it will cost $45 for a full day or $25 for a half day if we have space. But be quick as half a dozen spots have already been taken. There's an outside chance we might run a further day on the second Weds if it proves popular.
Thanks to those who attended our AGM on Zoom. Good to have this behind us which has enabled me to file the annual return. Key resolutions made were to;
Elect Tracey Mathieson as a committee member in place of Jono.
Approve the club manager role.
Approve the prior year minutes and 2019/20 accounts.
Approve a $5,000 contribution to the insulation aspect of the roofing replacement. At this stage it appears that the local board capital budget will cover the $14,000 cost over-run (revised cost now $79,000)..

it's hard to get everything firing in a squash club. This week saw a resurgence of social night interest but gaps appear in our interclub ranks and a player announce her withdrawal from interclub next season.
We are fortunate to be involved in a sport that has withstood the worst of COVID and with a couple of further busy months ahead this calendar year I encourage members to take advantage of playing opportunities.
