Headline News

Lockdown update
Well we're drifting along with case numbers in the teen range so there's a reasonable chance we will re-open our doors in two weeks but with safety protocols. I suspect that interclub in this case would get underway in early October which would conclude after the leagues (no play-offs) allowing just enough time for a Spring pennant. But any further delay and I think the play offs would be held and Spring abandoned.

Consideration is being given to bringing school hols forward but they may have left that too late already. We will be running a school holiday programme which would help parents seeking to return to work. Watch this space!

We still have several roles within the club seeking volunteers as noted below and if you'd like to put your hand up it would be really appreciated.

AGM reminder
Our AGM will be held on Thursday 23rd Sept at 6.30pm with the following agenda;
  • Approval of 2020 AGM minutes
  • Approval of accounts for the year to 31/3/21
  • Election of committee and other club roles (e.g. Mens beginner night co-ordinator)
  • Approval for club President to enter negotiations with Auckland council regarding a lease of the BHSC
  • Approval of COVID membership rebate
  • Any other business.
Your attendance would be much appreciated to achieve our quota of 10 members. Any other business to be submitted beforehand. Please confirm your attendance via the Facebook poll here and I'll forward you the zoom meeting link.

Lockdown 50km or 100km Challenge
A great effort from our 4 ladies achieving the following placings in this 2 week challenge, It featured 145 participants and concludes today;
  • 18 Shahrane'e.125km
  • 26 Amanda 106km
  • 27 Sam 105km
  • 51 Janice 70km
I don't think we'll take the trophy which will be based on participant numbers but our entrants have enjoyed the experience as have I with the following reserve placing.
  • 74 Paul 54km
Club room renovation (reminder, can you help?)
With the lighting project behind us we are now keen to invest some club funds in a revamp of our club room. Buy some new furniture and a fridge and achieve the most optimal use of the space. Does somebody in our membership have the internal design flair to help with this project?
I'm very sorry to advise of this cancellation. An enormous amount of work was invested by the squad and coach Ernie and I'm convinced they would have featured strongly. Another casualty of the lockdown but we remain proud of you guys!

Just a reminder of the team standings;
  • W1 - 1st
  • W2 - 1st
  • W3 - 1st
  • W4 - 1st
  • M1 - 2nd
  • M2 - 2nd
  • M3 - 6th
  • M4 - 6th
Squash Auckland:
"There’s plenty of support in New Zealand behind World Squash Day 2021 as an ideal opportunity for the sport as well as the community to become more inclusive and also raise awareness and funds for the Mental Health Foundation.
Former All Black, rugby coach and keen squash player, Tony Brown, is right behind Squash New Zealand supporting the Mental Health Foundation for World Squash Day, October 9 2021".
Our club is looking for a champion for this event, someone who probably has a keen interest in mental health. There are lots of activities planned such as the longest rally, broadest age group, most outrageous costume, squash court marathon or whatever you can dream up. The goals are to raise money for mental health and promote the club. Might someone be keen to get behind this initiative? I'm happy to provide further details.

New members & grade improvements

Not much opportunity for change.

Remarkably, with our success in tackling COVID we have now spent 110 days at L4 and counting. I hope that you guys are faring well and finding activities to occupy your time. I've enjoyed the therapy of walking allied to an audible book.

My twin sport activities keep me occupied and prevent too much TV viewing. But we're lucky that sports continue overseas and that GP crash at the weekend was quite something, check it out here and thank goodness for roll bars!

Anyhow, that's me done. Hope to see you via zoom next Thursday.

All the best
