Lockdown update
What an immensely frustrating time we are living through with a seemingly inexorable lockdown. My thoughts are with the parents of years 1-10 children with no certainty offered today on a return to schools. Stay strong folks and it will come to an end eventually.

Sadly, our doors remain firmly closed under present rules until we move to L2. As reported before, and despite my protest, Winter interclub has been cancelled in the hope that a 5 week Spring comp could be organised. Playing our the last 4 weeks of the winter comp would have been more feasible but it seems unlikely there will be sufficient weeks left to play out either league before Xmas.

What I might envisage as a best case scenario is the club getting back into action in the second half of November and, after a couple of weeks of training, kicking off both a Junior and Senior club champs. This can only be planned with more certainty but I think there will be a sufficient window to make it happen.

Committee meeting, Weds 13th October
Our freshly re-elected committee convenes by zoom tomorrow night and if there are any matters you would like to bring to their attention please let me know.
 
Squash Auckland Excellence Awards
These are presented in November and I'm pleased to report that we have submitted nominations in 4 categories including "Club of the year". Details of the nominees will be lodged on FB once Squash Auckland have collated the contenders..
 
Other activities
A few options for you to consider;
  • Tennis: the courts immediately outside the club are free and first come, first served. If you want to take the sport more seriously and book courts under current protocols you can contact the Beach Haven club president, Angelique at ajblom@btinternet.com and take advantage of the joint membership rates below that we have negotiated with the tennis club.
     
  • Skateboarding: I visited the club earlier in the week to find two of our older members, Debra & Leon, who should know better trialling their new hobby in the club car park (see below). Guess it's never too hold to teach an old dog new tricks!
     
  • Buy some gear: When visiting the club I dropped off a new racket & beginner ball with a new junior girl member so that she could get some practice with her Dad in their garage. Lucky kid! Could do the same for others if you'd like to make use of the spare time.
     
  • Refs exam: No-one has passed this exam during lock down to my knowledge but it still strikes me that most without the qualification will never have a better opportunity to attain it.

Guess that I might be luckier than most with a range of business and personal activities to keep me occupied and no kids to home school. I loved watching Liverpool beat Athletico in a cracking game this morning. But 9 weeks is a long time to spend in lockdown and particularly galling to stop squash club activity in it's tracks at a time things were going so well.

But as Peter Crouch would say, "we'll come back stronger", and I remain confident that we'll swing back into action by the end of the year and personally can't wait to re-connect with you all.
