Squash Auckland Excellence Awards
If you can't read the above list the important aspect is that we are finalists in two key categories;
  • Club of the Year (vs North Shore & Henderson)
  • Team of the Year Womens 1 (vs Westlake Girls high school team)
We have only been a Club of the Year finalist once before in 2019 when we lost out to Belmont Park. I believe that we are strong contenders this year as is the case for team of the year based on the list of achievements by our top ladies team; 2 pennants and leading the Winter comp together with a Superchamps title.

Further nominations were lodged for Catie Levell (Sportswoman of the Year) and Surya Sathish (Young Sportsman of the Year) but these were unsuccessful despite their strong contribution to both club and the squash community in the year.

The awards will be announced at 4pm next Saturday 6th Nov and it would be great if you could join the zoom presentation via this link.

Lockdown update
We roll on forward with no certainty of when we'll emerge but I remain optimistic that we can get back on court in early Dec offering the opportunity to stage our Club Champs.

Please keep an eye on Facebook and join the group if you want to make sure of keeping up with the latest news.

Other activities
A reminder of a few options out there;
  • Tennis: the courts immediately outside the club are free and first come, first served. If you want to take the sport more seriously and book courts under current protocols you can contact the Beach Haven club president, Angelique at ajblom@btinternet.com and take advantage of the joint membership rates below that we have negotiated with the tennis club

  • Watch the Mandalorian: I signed up for the Disney Channel for $15 to watch the 16 episodes of the Mandalorian and then also got hooked on a further 7 behind the scenes episodes. Recommended!

  • Refs exam: No-one has passed this exam during lock down to my knowledge but it still strikes me that most without the qualification will never have a better opportunity to attain it.

Gear available

Here's my range of very modestly priced rackets;
  • Tecnifibre Carboflex 125g (pictured) $175
  • Dunlop premium graphite (Farag) $175
  • Dunlop Elite (Gaultier) $160 pictured
  • Dunlop Tempo 155g $125
  • Tacky overgrip (incl re-gripping): $5
  • Full replacement thick grip $10
  • Single yellow ball: $7
The televised sports diet continues and I'm relishing top performances from Liverpool in recent weeks. Let's hope that the Black Caps can beat India to give us a stake in the T20 finals. A tough proposition going up against the leading cricket nation with over a billion population but we've done it before.

I hope you're keeping well and a very Happy birthday to Sam today!

Best regards

Paul
