Exciting times for our club as we build towards 3, maybe 4 team entries, in the annual Superchamps competition which provides a focal point for many club players. The developing strength, particularly in our female ranks, means this competition could not come at a better time for us.

Other than training, nothing more is required right now with recent focus being on ensuring players are eligible to compete which was a particular concern for the Juniors. The next deadline is July 7th for lodging team entries. For more info check out Sam's summary here or the details at the foot of this e-mail.

Here's a run down on our potential squads;
Mens C grade
Confirmed: Ernie (capt)/Brent/ Geoff/ Ernie/ Zac + Hawley & Miguel (injured)
Training: these guys already train together and have a strong team identity.
Prospects: this grade is always the most fiercely contested due to the preponderance of mens players at this grade. But our players are towards the top of this grade and will be competitive, the more so if Miguel recovers in time.

Womens D grade
Confirmed: Sam (capt)/ Siri/ Laura/ Catie/ Daniella/ Sophie & Anna (reserve)
Training: Ernie has been training this group for about 4 weeks on Sat mornings and the results are already showing.
Prospects: this group are playing their heart out and the team leads W3 so they have a good chance of the district title.

Mens F/J grade
Confirmed: Arjun/ Morne/ Zac/ EJ/ Natsu
Manager: Martyn
Training: Thursday evening training already underway alongside regular junior coaching and Martyn will add a Sunday morning session in July..
Prospects: we have no F graders, just an emerging group of low J graders but there's 7 weeks to go and the commitment of this group to tournament play is already improving their skills.

Womens E grade
Confirmed: Kogi/ Darshana/ Misty/ Erin (transfer from Titirangi)
Unavailable: Emily and Shahrane'e (abroad)/ Tracey (post surgery)
Training: None yet but I'm prepared to offer 4 weeks of Thursday 6pm coaching preparatory to the competition.
Prospects: the club has a wealth of emerging talent at this level but presently just 4 committed players including one seconded from another club. Despite the 3 absentees this team could be very competitive.

Superchamps is played annually in two stages;
  • Regional play-offs - July 27 - Aug 1 2021
  • National eliminations - Sept 22 - 25 2021 (regional winners)
Clubs put forward squads by grade, both male and female, as follows;
  • Max 7 strong squads
  • Teams of 5 each night commencing 6.30pm
  • Players can compete at a higher but not lower grade
  • Grades determined June 11th
  • Player transfers from other clubs cut off June 3rd
  • Team entries close July 7th (4pm)
There are a few requirements of players;
  • Must be club ref qualified
  • Must have played 3 games in the calendar year to 11 June
  • Entry fee payable $25-$30
Players typically organise their schedule to peak at Superchamps and the new womens coaching programme has been devised with this in mind.

Superchamps venues will be arranged taking into account where participating clubs at that grade are situated. Generally entrants split into two pools prior to Sunday cross over finals (1 vs 1 etc) and is It is  conceivable that we might host a round robin section but our kitchen facilities are a little limited.
