Believe in it® Athlete,
Most young men in North Carolina enjoy their long hair. The UNC Asheville baseball team likes their long hair too.
The players don't just like it for how cool it looks flowing in the wind as they take the field. They like it because they can use their locks for charity.
After a game against Wake Forest this year the players got their heads shaved to raise money to help fight children's cancer.
Coach Tom Smith said, "We recruit good kids, so hopefully giving back is not something we have to teach them, but something they are already aware of and doing when they get here."
Last year they raised $20,000. Smith said, "It's important that our kids see that the work we do off the field is benefiting others who need help."
Senior player Robert McIntosh said, "It's not so much that we are expected to do this, but it's something we want to do."
At Believe in it® we like to say part of being a great, motivated athlete is giving back to your community. It's inspiring seeing athletes like the UNC Asheville Baseball team giving back.
