Our Annual General Meeting is December 2 at 6:30 pm! Join us as we recap the year, appreciate our volunteers, prepare for next year, and enjoy a surprise activity and some door prizes!

SPEC Volunteer Opportunities 
Featured - School Gardens Program Helper

SPEC School Gardens Program is seeking 8 energetic volunteers to assist with leading garden and food literacy activities for school aged children outdoors on school grounds or nearby green spaces in the spring of 2022.
Build your experience engaging with young students (ages 5-13 years) while leading short activities in small groups on topics such as pollinators, soil science, beneficial insects, seasonal changes with lots of hands-on gardening and nature observations. All volunteers will be provided with resources and tips to teach in an outdoor environment.

We're highlighting some great initiatives/groups in our community that are hosting online events, educational workshops and/or webinars occurring this month. 
Master RecyclerTalkin' Trash Radio Show |
Join Daniel Rotman from Master Recycler and guests on Co-op Radio CFRO 100.5FM as they discuss issues relating to waste, both locally and worldwide. Access past recorded shows on their website. 

Farm Folk, City Folk | November 19 | BC Seed Gathering 2021
A place for farmers, gardeners and seed community activists to come together to learn, share ideas on a number of different issues that relate to seed security.

SPEC Annual General Meeting | December 2 
Mark your calendars, our AGM is December 2 at 6:30pm. Join us on Zoom as we recap the year, appreciate our volunteers, prepare for next year, and celebrate SPEC.

Fridays for Future | Every Friday, 12 - 2pm
Every Friday outside of City Hall (12th and Cambie) to demand climate action from our government. Make a sign or just come out and join them!

Thank you to:
  • Telus Friendly Future Foundation and TD Friends of the Environment Foundation for their grants to support the new Climate Action Workshops series.
  • Little Mountain Community Fund, a donor directed fund of the Vancity Community Foundation for their grant to support the Ecological Literacy project at Riley Park and Brock Elementary School.
  • Eco Canada for their grant to hire SPEC's new Communications Coordinator.
  • Vancouver Foundation for their funding to carry out diversity, inclusion and equity work in the Textile Lab for Circularity program.
  • SPEC supporters who bought tickets and helped spread the word of the Lovin' the Earth online raffle, as well as the local businesses and individuals who donated the raffle items.

We are always looking for new perspectives and ideas! Our meetings are currently held online. They are open to the public and we encourage you to participate if you are interested in any of the areas of focus.

Our teams meet once a month to review projects, brainstorm project ideas and collaborate on new initiatives from SPEC or brought to us by team members and you. The meetings are a great opportunity to network and engage with others that share the same values and passions in our community around food security, waste reduction, and sustainable energy and transportation.
