Come along to our first Arts Get Together for 2014 and find out what's happening in Birre in the year ahead

Venue: Birre Senior Citizens Room
(at the rear of the hall)

When: Thursday 13th Feb

Time: 6pm - 7.30pm

Well, Happy New Year.

After a good few months of Christmas chaos and fun in the sun, it's time to get back to what's really important.....flexing those creative muscles and focusing on getting a little more toned (ah...I love an art pun!)

So, while you've all been resting up, a few of the BAG team have been busily hatching all sorts of plans for the year ahead. We've been heading out to other district art groups to see how they get things done, and we've had a good old fashioned planning session to set out a calendar of things to do in Birre, things going on in the district, and important arts events in the broader community.

Our lovely Debbie McIntyre is now setting about filling in the calendar for all to see on our NEW WEBSITE...yep, your read right....NEW WEBSITE! Well, I say new, but it is still under construction and set to be released in the next month or two.
  • You will soon be able to get an abridged newsletter version with links to much more detail in the website.
  • There will be a calendar with all Birre activities and events so you can choose what to do or figure out the best time to put your own event on
  • You can view all the great stuff we put on our Facebook page
  • You'll be able to add your comments, share your arts stories and hopefully, if we can figure out how, contribute to and meet others in topic forums.
We've also had a number of wonderful BAG members throw their hands up to get things moving a little better. These fantastic people are:
  • Angie Smales (The Potty Knitter) - Looking after the Birre market Co-op stall and festival activities as well as helping out with the website
  • Debbie McIntyre - Setting up the calendar and jotting down all our creative ramblings at our get togethers
  • Jane Dennis - helping gather ideas and the finer details for our BAG daytrips
  • Margot Fitzpatrick - digging deep to find funding opportunities and putting pen to paper to get the money rolling in
  • Kelvin Harmon and Linnet Hunter - providing valuable technical advice for staging equipment so we have the best chance of getting some much needed funding and hold more quality events in the hall
To all these fabulous members - A Huge Thank You! Your help is so valuable and will take BAG to a whole new level. And if anyone else is keen to help out - even in the smallest of ways - please email me at

Our financial membership is gradually gathering momentum and we now have over 20 paid up members...and counting. Up until now, it's all been a little adhoc and not formalised, but with funding opportunities front of mind we are looking to grow our financial membership base and come up with more ways of providing value to individuals and families.

Our membership renewal month is now September and soon all current paid up members will receive a membership badge and number which they can bring to our meetings so everyone can get to know them, as well as use to receive discounts on workshops, events and some daytrips. Artists will also have access to our support team at Regional Arts Victoria and get advice and funding assistance for holding their own events. And most importantly, you'll be helping our little town's arts community prosper and grow.

A big formal WELCOME to all of our current paid up members.

Birregurra Open Studios 2014 - Easter Weekend

Once again, all our fantastic artists are getting ready to fling open their studio doors and welcome in the public to get a glimpse of how they work.  BAG has thrown their hand up to help out and are looking for volunteers to provide support and help out artists at each location. If you have a few hours to spare on either or both Easter Saturday and Sunday, please email me at
Lets help make this event the biggest and bests it's ever been.

And now.....

Let the fun begin!
