Public Invited to Meridian Mindset: A Mental Health Awareness Event

MERIDIAN – In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, the City of Meridian Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) and Mayor’s Senior Advisory Board (MSAB) are teaming up with Connection is the Cure to host Meridian Mindset—an evening of education, connection, art, and service at Meridian City Hall (33 E. Broadway Ave., Meridian, ID 83642) on Monday, May 23rd. The doors will be open by 5:45 PM and the program begins at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of Meridian City Hall with a series of presentations by featured speakers whose work—voluntary or professional—touches on aspects of mental health and suicide prevention. These speakers are:
  1. Shannon Decker (Executive Director & Co-Founder, The Speedy Foundation)
  2. September Frogley (Co-Founder, Connection is the Cure)
  3. Gretchen Gudmundsen (Child Clinical Psychologist, St. Luke's)
  4. Shawna Delaney-Saladino (Anti-Bullying Specialist & Founder, Word Warriors)
  5. Tracy Basterrechea (Chief of Police, City of Meridian)
Following the presentations, attendees are encouraged to visit booths stationed by representatives of various groups and organizations to learn more about community resources available in our area. Afterward, MYAC students will lead a chalk art project with attendees in the Meridian City Hall Plaza—encouraging attendees to cover the concrete with kind, compassionate, and uplifting messages and art.

Attendees may bring basic toiletry items to donate to Connection is the Cure. These items will be packaged and provided to those in the community who are at the highest risk of mental health distress and suicide. A collection booth will be available near the main entrance of Meridian City Hall. The following items are requested:
  • travel-size shampoos
  • travel-size conditioners
  • travel-size toothpaste
  • travel-size deodorants
  • travel-size hand sanitizers
  • wash cloths
  • toothbrushes
  • protein/granola bars
