Welcome to the Fandom Without Fear

As we are now in the beginning of February, it’s been a little over two months since Netflix announced that Daredevil’s third season would be its last and that the show had been cancelled. This was a shock not only to us fans, but also to cast and crew who were already preparing to go back to work on season four.

For the members of the #SaveDaredevil team, there were a rough couple of days before we decided to shift gears from a “renew” effort, which was just getting off the ground, to putting our energy into doing whatever we can to save this show.

Over the past two months, thousands of fans from all over the world have continued to voice their support for Daredevil, and their disappointment at seeing such an excellent show cancelled well before its time. We have also seen open endorsements from many of the cast and crew. They have been key in keeping this campaign in the news and their support sends a very strong message to the powers that be that the fans are not the only ones interesting in seeing the show continue.

Early on, we partnered with other initiatives already under way, such as the petition, currently at 245,000 signatures and still growing, and the “Operation Napkins” fan campaign. We have also just completed a letter-writing campaign to reach out Disney executive Kevin Mayer.

Countless fans continue to contribute to our broader efforts, in ways big and small. This is what makes it possible for this fan-run campaign to run on a number of platforms and create a steady flow of content. We are in this fight for the long haul.

And that’s where this newsletter comes in. With so much going on, and so many events in the works, it may be difficult to stay on top of everything. We’re hoping that reaching out to the community at regular intervals will help keep everyone up to speed.

Here’s what’s coming up in February:

Calling all fans in the #FandomWithoutFear!

#SaveDaredevil was well-represented at Ace Comic Con in January, where we got to meet fans on the ground, talk about the campaign, and hand out some swag. But the best part was receiving an endorsement from Charlie Cox himself!
We want to continue making a splash “IRL” and are now looking to do this in one of the most public ways possible – by making an appearance on the Plaza at the Today Show on February 22. If you are in and around New York City on this date and want to attend, get all the details on our site, and join the Facebook group as directed

Social Media

A vibrant and engaged #FandomWithoutFear community has formed on so many different social media platforms, so make sure to follow us on any or all of the ones you spend most of your time, be it Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or Tumblr..

We also have our own YouTube channel, featuring the latest updates in video form.
If you prefer visuals over words, our latest video update for "The Bulletin" is available to watch on our YT Channel!
We are also currently planning an upcoming campaign video that turns the focus on the fans! Go to our Fandom Without Fear Video page to learn how you can get involved by submitting a short video or photograph.
For those of you who are active participants in the #SaveDaredevil hashtag, or want a good place to get started, we've updated our Social Media page with new tips and recommendations from our team. One of our biggest changes will be giving some structure to your social media engagement by utilizing daily hashtags:
  • Monday: #CharlieCoxIsDaredevil

  • Tuesday: #NotGivingUp

  • Wednesday: #BeTheHero

  • Thursday: #WorthTheWait

  • Friday: #FandomWithoutFear

  • Sat/Sun: No daily hashtag, but we may try to organize specific discussion topics or rewatch sessions to keep the conversation going

Fan Creations

Are you creative or a content creator in the fandom? In addition to our main Tumblr account, we also have an account for fan submissions of art, fanfic, videos and whatever else you could think of that can be displayed on a webpage.
That account was the inspiration for another one of our February events: a #SaveDaredevil Fanworks Initiative! Submissions are officially open and we'll be posting your work from 2/25-3/3. You can read more about it, and how to submit your own work on our Fanworks Initiative page. Share your passion with the world!

You may have caught a glimpse of some really cool people rocking a really cool campaign T-shirt. Want one for yourself? Go to our Resources page and scroll to the bottom to order yours. All proceeds will be donated to the Andrew Heiskell Braille and Talking Book Library!
