Outer Hebrides

Back in late April we made the long trip out from Oban to Lochboisdale on South Uist. The six hour crossing of the Minch on a flat sea under a bluebird sky was truly memorable, with fabulous views of all the Hebridean islands and some amazing wildlife....

Our base for the week was a place called Otter Point on the shores of Loch Aineort
, on the east side of South Uist, below the slopes of Beinn Mhor....

Sunburnt on our first day, then whipped by the winds and squalls later in the week, we enjoyed long days of exploring, photography and birdwatching, and also making trips to Eriskay and Benbecula.

The islands are so rich in wildlife... Hen Harrier, Golden Eagle, Cuckoo, Golden Plover feeding and roosting in large flocks on the machair, Red Breasted Mergansers, divers and sea ducks off shore, playful seals, and on our last day a glimpse of the elusive otter.

Exhibitions

Thank you to everyone who came to see our work at the Yorkshire Wolds Gallery, Staxton this spring.

Ruth is currently taking part in 'Wish You Were Here', an exhibition of postcard sized art at Woodend Creative, Scarborough. The artwork is all displayed anonymously, and each postcard can be purchased for only £20. It's a brilliant opportunity to see a wide range of affordable artwork produced by over 150 artists. The exhibition runs until Friday 18th September 2015.

Summer in the North Yorks Moors

Here we have been enjoying walks amongst the rich sights and sounds of the moorland wildlife, as the seasons continue to roll. Breeding birds that bring particular delight include lapwing, curlew, black headed gull and woodcock, together with occasional brief encounters with slow worm, adder and stoat.
The bell heather and cross leaved heath are already flowering, and it won't be long now before the ling is in full flower also.

Ruth continues to explore intimate details in both the local landscape and her favourite gardens, whilst Pete is looking forward to a summer trip to the Alps very soon.

Pete continues with his program of workshops and will be busy next winter with his lecture program.
