News from the Studio

I’ve spent the month of May painting and teaching.  What could be better?  I downloaded some new tunes on my iPad and painted away.

The ‘2017 Kootenay Rockies Art’  Calendars have arrived!  My paintings are featured in the month of May with other Kootenay painters featured in the other months.  Recipes from local restaurants are also throughout.  You can purchase calendars directly from Caprice Fine Art & Co Studio Gallery or through my website by clicking here.  Calendars sell for $20 with no tax and free shipping in North America.

In my last newsletter, I posted an interview that I did with Chris Sprague of VCN TV.  Thank you to everyone who contacted me with your feedback.  I am glad that you enjoyed it!  In case you missed it, you can find the interview called "Sharing a Passion for Art and Life" by clicking here.

Art Lessons

Tuesday was an emotional night when my 6 week ‘Painting in Oils’ class finished.  I was fortunate to have a group of very talented painters to work with.  I am humbled that they allowed me to inspire them to find beautiful things within themselves and teach them how to put that onto a canvas.  The paintings produced during the class will be on display at the Kimberley Public Library in their showcase during the month of June.  I will miss our time together!  Until next time...

L to R: Gail, Ian, Laura, George, Glenda, Brenda, Margaret
Sioban, Don, Jeanie, Caprice and Brigitte.  Anita is missing.

I am planning my next 6 week 'Painting in Oils' class which will begin in mid-September.  I will be posting more information in upcoming newsletters, but spaces are already filling up.  If you don’t want to miss out, please send me an email to reserve your place now.

My private lessons in the Studio continue as well.  Yes oil painters are making a comeback!  Woohoo!  If you are interested in a one on one painting lesson, please email me for more information.

Painting from the Vault!

There is no bigger thrill than a painting trip in the mountains!  In the summer of 2002, my painter friend and I hopped in her truck and took a day trip to the Crowsnest Pass in Alberta.  It was a magical day.  I wound up painting 2 paintings in one day…along side the deer and other wild life that stood there watching us paint.  It was exhausting but exhilarating!  This palette knife painting was one of the results!  What do you think?

See You Soon!

The Studio Gallery is now open daily with the exception of Market days and on location painting days.  If you will be in Kimberley and would like to visit the Gallery please email me so that I can be sure I do not miss you!  We are located downtown, one block North of the Platzl at 65 Boundary Street.  The tourists have already been arriving and I am looking forward to seeing YOU soon.

The ‘1st Saturday’s Art Markets’ will be starting on July 2 from noon-4pm.  You will find me in my regular location under the big tree across from the Spirit Rock Climbing Wall.  I hope you will come down to check out the art and the music.  The festivities are always a good time!  Let’s hope for good weather!

Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter.  Please feel free to forward this email to family and friends.

Have an EPIC day!

Book of the Month

'Carl Rungius - Painter of the Western Wilderness'
by Jon Whyte & E. J. Hart

When I was learning to paint, I had the pleasure of visiting the largest collection of Carl Rungius paintings on regular exhibit at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary. Carl lived and worked for most of his career in Banff, Alberta where he created magnificent mountain paintings.  He was my mentor Keith Smith's favourite painter and Keith had the good fortune to actually meet him!  If you are not familiar with Rungius' work, I highly recommend you acquaint yourself with his paintings!
