"It is wonderful to feel the grandness of Canada in the raw, not because she is Canada but because she's something sublime that you were born into, some great rugged power that you are a part of."

New Paintings

I am beginning this month's newsletter with my newest paintings because I am too excited to talk about anything else!  After 2 years of waiting, I have finally completed the painting called "Splendour of Yoho".  Time to celebrate!  Normally it does not take me this long to finish a painting, but I repeatedly put it on the easel and then off the easel until inspiration finally hit!  Let me know what you think.  I look forward to your feedback!  "Splendour of Yoho" is available for sale on the website.

"Splendour of Yoho", oil on canvas, 40"X50", available for sale from www.CapriceArtStudio.com .  Please click here for more details.  Free shipping in Canada and no tax!

I photographed my painting progress while working on "Splendour of Yoho" and have posted the photos on a board on Pinterest.  Please click here to go to the Pinterest board.  You can also check out my other boards while you are there to find out what inspires me, the places I travel and other fun things!  The painting photos are also posted on Facebook, please click here to go to that album.

During the month of April I completed a commission painting of the Steeples mountain range located between Kimberley and Cranbrook.  My client commissioned this painting because it is a place that is very dear to him as he grew up in the area and is now living in Toronto.  I was fortunate to be on the phone with him when he first viewed the photo of the painting and his reaction was "I am home".  What more could I ask for?  I am thrilled that he allowed me to fulfill that hope for him.  Now, on to my next commission.

"Bruce's Steeples", oil on canvas, 22"X28", private collection Toronto, Ont.  www.CapriceArtStudio.com

Please keep in mind all available paintings are uploaded to the website on a regular basis, so check back often!  There is free shipping in Canada and no tax.

Art Lessons

The lessons have been a bit slower this month which has given me the opportunity to spend time alone in the Studio.  I did have a mother and daughter from Fernie spend some quality time together here in the Studio while learning to paint in oils.  Don't forget Mother's Day is coming up in May.  Perhaps you would like to book some painting lessons for you and your Mom?  Please send me an email for more information on lessons, supplies and available times.

News From the Studio

The golf courses in Kimberley are officially open despite the fact that we are still occasionally seeing snow.  I am looking forward to a busy summer season here in the Studio and am anxious for visitors to start arriving.  I do enjoy sharing my paintings and I hope to see many of you this summer.  The Studio will have regular summer hours but I do have a few short painting trips planned.  If you will be in Kimberley and would like to visit the Studio, please email me to arrange a time.  I do not want to miss you!

On June 7, I will be painting in the Platzl at the '1st Saturday's Art Market'.  Please come say hello!

Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter.  If you have family, friends or colleagues who would be interested, please feel free to forward this newsletter.  Wishing you a great month of May!

Book of the Month

To commemorate my trip to Italy 4 years ago, I am featuring the book "Caravaggio The Complete Works" by Rossella Vodret.  I had the good fortune of seeing the Caravaggio exhibit in Rome.  The paintings were huge and the paint, the texture, the pure talent was something I could have never dreamed of.  The painting on the front cover of this book brought tears to my eyes, as it was powerful.  Frances Mayes, author of 'Under the Tuscan Sun' says that "In Italy one breathes art."  This is an understatement.  I still feel the impact of all the great art I experienced on that trip and just writing about Caravaggio paintings gives me chills today.
