News from the Studio

One of my favorite things about doing this newsletter is the feedback that I receive from readers.  Here's a quote from an email that arrived after the last newsletter:

"I love this newsletter and the insights that you share about art, life and the world.  All of your paintings are beautiful and fascinating. I compare your body of work to a spider web; you are the creative centre, and your work simply takes different directions but is all connected. I have not seen one painting that I would say is “better” than another. They are simply different and represent the influences in your rich and wonderful life."
-Lennea Durant, Vancouver, BC

Thank you Lennea..these words mean a lot as my goal is to share not only my own work with readers, but I also want to share my passion and love of art.  I am truly blessed that I not only have readers here in North America, but all over the world....throughout Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Saudi Arabia and even Kazakhstan!  When I first started this newsletter I had no idea how far reaching it would become and I thank each and every one of you for being a part of my journey!

New Paintings

In my last newsletter I mentioned a large commission painting that was near completion.  Here it is:

'First Peak', oil on canvas, 24"X48", private collection, Jaffray, BC .  www.capriceartstudio.com

While working on a commission piece, I am always very confident that I will be able to follow through on the wishes of my customers.  When I sign the piece that means I am satisfied that it is a quality painting.  But when the day arrives that my customers are coming to view it for the first time, I am always a bundle of nerves!  I hope those nerves will never go away, as I simply want the very best for my customers.  So far so good and this couple was indeed happy with their painting!  Phew!

Don and Mary with me and their new painting!

If you are interested in discussing a possible commission painting, please email me to ask questions or to set up a consultation.  I would be happy to discuss options with you at my Studio Gallery, over the phone, via email or Skype.

Please keep in mind that all repeat customers receive a 10% discount on all original paintings that are available for sale as well as on commission paintings.  I truly appreciate my customers and this is my way of saying thank you for your continued support.  There is also no charge for shipping in North America on all original paintings.

Paintings from the Vault!

I received feedback from several readers saying they enjoyed seeing one of my older paintings in the last newsletter.  Some of you have been following my career from it's very early days, but many readers have joined me along the way and have never seen my early works.  So here is a painting that was painted in 1998 and was exhibited at my first ever solo exhibition in Calgary, Alberta.  This painting now resides in Lethbridge, Alberta with it's happy owners!

'Lake O'hara', oil on canvas, 30"X40", private collection, Lethbridge, AB, www.capriceartstudio.com

Art Lessons

I have been so busy with painting that I have not had the time to teach painting lessons.  Fortunately, I had a lady who continued to email me until I could fit her in.  We had two fun lessons together and she reminded me how much I love to teach.  Thanks Lloy!  Can you imagine that people actually pay me to talk about art?  How good can it get?  I have now decided to set aside a few afternoons each month for lessons.  Spaces will be limited, but if you are interested in learning to paint in oils, please email me for more details.  Art supplies can be provided.

Memories

In my opinion an artist has to feel deeply.  Fortunately for me that comes naturally, but it does not always feel like a good thing.  A dear friend recently passed away and it really knocked me for a loop.  I was unable to paint for days.  Then it occurred to me how upset my friend, who was a big supporter of my work, would be if he knew I was not painting because of him.  So I went back to the easel and as I painted, I thought of all the happy memories we shared and I knew he had become part of the painting I was working on!  I then was very grateful for my ability to feel deeply!  I hope that when you look at my paintings, you will be able to feel that too!

Book of the Month

'Great Paintings of the Western World'
by Alison Gallup

When I was first learning to paint, my art teacher handed me a 2" art history book and said "here read this".  Are you kidding me?  I truly did not see the point, but it didn't take long for the lure of great art to turn into an addiction for art history books.  Now, all these years later, it was a difficult decision as to which one of my history books I should feature in the 'Book of the Month'.  This is a good one with plenty of color plates of paintings.  Whichever art history book you choose to read, it truly doesn't matter, as long as you enjoy the wealth of great art that is out there!
