News from the Studio

Fall has hit here in the Kootenays and so has my inspiration!  How can a person not be inspired at this time of year?  The colors are brilliant.  As Thanksgiving weekend approaches here in Canada, I have much to be thankful for.  Thank you to everyone that visited the Studio this year...it's been busy and I loved every minute of it.  I often wonder if other businesses have their customers walk through the door and instantly hug them?  Well that happens to me all the time.  How cool is that?  I have the best customers ever and am grateful to call many of you my friends.

I also want to thank everyone who emailed me after my last newsletter.  I appreciate you taking the time to write and I can assure you that my Mom is indeed feeling much better.  As I do receive a lot of mail, I apologize if I am unable to answer each of you personally.  Please do keep your letters coming and I will reply as I can, but right now I am feeling the need to be at the easel rather than the computer...

At the beginning of September, I participated in the Art Market in the Platzl.  This was the last market for me for this year.  The number of tourists visiting my Studio has already started to dwindle and that gives me more time to spend at the easel.  As much as I enjoy having visitors, I also look forward to my "hibernation" time and am grateful for the different seasons in my little city.

New Paintings

Visitors to the Studio often like to look through my pile of half finished canvases that are stacked on the floor next to my easel.  This summer an interesting phenomena began happening...people started buying the paintings before they were even finished!  True story!  Here is one painting that sold two weeks ago...before it was even signed.  In the meantime, I have finished it, signed it and photographed it.  It will be shipped to Calgary this week.

'Autumn Larches', oil on canvas, 8"X10", private collection, Calgary, AB www.CapriceArtStudio.com .

With this new found interest in my incomplete paintings, I thought you would like to see the piece I am working on at the moment.  After my month long dry spell I was excited to begin this painting of water lilies from Butchart Gardens in Victoria.  Since I have never painted water lilies before I am having a lot of fun!  The painting is still in it's early stages, but what do you think of it so far?  I will post the finished painting as soon it's complete.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you are all able to enjoy the beautiful fall colors (for those of you in Australia and Tasmania...I hope you enjoy the spring colors!).  Caprice Fine Art & Co Studio Gallery will remain open most afternoons for the month of October.  If you will be in the Kimberley area please stop by to say hello.  For further news from the Studio don't forget to follow us on Facebook.  Please feel free to share this newsletter.

Book of the Month

"Composition of Outdoor Painting" by Edgar Payne

This book recently arrived in my mailbox from an artist friend that had visited the Studio this summer.  It's a good reminder of all the art theory that Karen Hersey taught me when I first began painting 20 years ago!  I recommend this book to all my students and to those of you who like to paint.
