Welcome to Independent Publishing Now!, IBPA's monthly e-newsletter featuring the hottest news and information from IBPA and its members.

In one week, Mimi Le, IBPA’s Project Manager, and Angela Bole, IBPA’s CEO, will head out to Orlando, FL to represent 218 independent titles at the American Library Association Annual Conference.

From Friday (June 24) to Monday (June 27), librarians, publishers and authors will come together to not only celebrate the rich and diverse collection of books displayed on the show floor but also show profound commitment to transforming communities and defying intolerance by means of example. Conference attendees will have an opportunity to support the people of Orlando by wearing armbands in support of diversity, equality and inclusion; volunteering for community relief projects; and supporting local minority owned businesses. Kim Curtis appeared on KOTO-ABC 8 TV - Reno discussing her #1 best-selling book, Money Secrets: Keys To Smart Investing with anchor Amanda Sanchez on May 17th. Money Secrets, published by Financial Literacy Press, focuses on wealth management and provides a common-sense approach to planning and investing wisely. The book took home the silver award in this past year's IBPA Benjamin Franklin Book Awards contest. Kim Curtis is a nationally recognized wealth management advisor and speaker. She has been published in a variety of publications including the Wall Street Journal. You can watch a short clip of her interview on YouTube.

Last month at BookExpo America 2016, Angela Bole, IBPA's CEO, interviewed seven IBPA members (Anna Wang, Neal Katz, Lynn Varuzzo, Michael T. Mathews, Regina E. McCarthy, Michael C. Higgins, and Nancy Gee). Each member shared their inspiration behind writing and publishing his or her book. Furthermore, a handful of members on the show floor, like Allen Wolf and Britt Holewinski, were kind enough to share with us their BEA 2016 experience on-camera! Their videos are available to view on IBPA's YouTube channel.

Within weeks of celebrating her new romantic suspense release, Silent Sentry, with a Michigan book club who chose to read and discuss it as their April pick, Theresa Rizzo learned that her July 2015 women’s fiction book, The Lives Between Us, won the prestigious 2016 National Indie Excellence Award for Women's Fiction and was finalist for the 2016 Next Generation Indie Book Awards for Chick Lit. Theresa Rizzo is an award-winning author who writes emotional stories that explore the complexity of relationships and families through real-life trials. She has been a member of IBPA since 2015.

What a Bragger! by Lee Ann Mancini recently won 1st place in the Picture Books - 6 & Older category and received an honorable mention in the Illustration category for the 2016 Purple Dragonfly Book Award. The children's book has also garnered awards from Readers Favorite, the National Indie Excellence Award, and Mom's Choice Award. What a Bragger!  teaches young children to love one another for who they are, not the things they possess, through the eyes of Melissa Blowfish. Mancini is also the author of Fast Freddy, which took home not one but two silver IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards last year.

On October 8th, 2016, libraries across North America will host local events for the first annual Indie Author Day, and will then come together at 2 pm Eastern for a digital gathering that will offer inspiration, information and advice for authors from publishing industry specialists. This event will bring the indie writing community together through the library system both physically and digitally. Partners of this event include IBPA, Publishers Weekly’s BookLife, Library Journal’s SELF-e, Pressbooks Public, RAILS, Massachusetts Library System (MLS), Soon to Be Famous and BiblioLabs. The IBPA staff will be offering support at the Los Angeles Public Library.
