Dear *|FNAME|*,

Welcome to Independent Publishing Now, IBPA's monthly e-newsletter that features the hottest news and information from IBPA members.

As children, the end of July represented the bittersweet middle of summer; an entire month of vacation left to enjoy, tainted by the beginning of the school year leering in the distance. July has been as busy as ever at the IBPA office, but the bustle has moved back to the comfort of our California-based office after having returned from BEA and ALA.

We had a wonderful time meeting some members and displaying your titles at June/July's ALA Annual Conference. For those that helped out and kept us company in the cooperative booth, we couldn't be more appreciative! And to those that couldn't make it, we hope to see you next year!

July holds an impressive number of literary birthdays including Franz Kafka (July 3), E.B. White (July 11), Pablo Neruda (July 12), Ernest Hemingway (July 21), Emily Brontë (July 30), and J.K. Rowling (July 31). July 4th, 5th, and 6th are "National Tom Sawyer Days" and July 16th-21st are "Hemingway Days."

Now, on with the show! See below for this month's noteworthy news. IBPA members can send notice of their accomplishments (TV appearances, special mentions, book signings, etc.) to We look forward to featuring you in a future issue!

It's a beautiful book that feels good in the hand," "Not a word is wasted, yet the writing throughout is graceful and generous," and, "Rains' writing style is deliberate without being boring, respectful without currying favor, and hypnotic without being controlling," Fran Ponick, Reviewer, The Washington Times Communities.
