Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to Independent Publishing Now, IBPA's monthly e-newsletter that features the hottest news and information from IBPA members.

It's hard to believe that fall is officially here and that we're already in the middle of October! IBPA's Chief Operations Officer, Terry Nathan, and Project Coordinator, Mimi Le, are currently in Frankfurt, Germany at the world's largest International Book Fair. As always, it is an honor to represent IBPA member's titles. Terry and Mimi's time at the fair are being dedicated to meeting with international contacts in order to assist members in licensing the rights to publish their titles throughout the world. We will be releasing an official report in the next few weeks. In the meantime, check out our 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair Report.

Now, on with the show! See below for this month's noteworthy news. IBPA members can send notice of their accomplishments (TV appearances, special mentions, book signings, etc.) to mimi@ibpa-online.org. We look forward to featuring you in a future issue!

Sincerely,

Your IBPA Staff:
Angela Bole, Terry Nathan, Mimi Le, and Patti Grasso

Michael Harris, author of Brandywine: A Military History of the Battle that Lost Philadelphia but Saved America, September 11, 1777. Publisher: Savas Beatie LLC.
Brandywine, written by Michael Harris and published by Savas Beatie LLC, recently won the 2015 American Revolution Round Table of Richmond Book Award. This award honors a volume published within the previous two years and determines the winner on the title's narrative strength, the thoroughness of the author’s research (mastery of sources), and originality and significance of the author’s contribution to the understanding of the American Revolution. Theodore P. Savas, Managing Director of Savas Beatie stated, “We are very pleased Mr. Harris has been recognized for his work in Brandywine, humbled to have published it, and honored that it was selected for this award by the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond.”

The Therapist Writer author Sylvia Cary.
IBPA member Sylvia Cary, psychotherapist and author of 5 books, is to get an award for "Best Niche Campaign" for her title, The Therapist Writer: Helping Mental Health Professionals Get Published (Timberlake Press). The IRWIN Award, named for the Book Publicists of Southern California founder, Irwin Zucker, was introduced in 1995 as a way to formally and publicly recognize BPSC members who conduct the best book sales/promotion campaigns. Honorees share with the BPSC audience the steps they took that led to the success of their book promotion campaigns. The event takes place at the Sportsman's Lodge in Studio City on Oct. 15th.

Author Kathryn Kemp Guylay holding her title Mountain Mantras: Wellness and Life Lessons from the Slopes (Publisher: Healthy Solutions of Sun Valley, LLC).
Last month, author and IBPA member Kathryn Kemp Guylay debuted her first title, Mountain Mantras: Wellness and Life Lessons from the Slopes. It's only been a few weeks since its release and Mountain Mantras has hit the Amazon #1 New Release status several times (as well as #1 Best Seller in its category!). Furthermore, the title received 31 customer reviews (97% 5-star) within the first two days of its release. The book hasn't been the only one to receive a ton of attention! On Sept. 16th, Kathryn gave a standing room only book talk at the Idaho Non-Profit Annual Conference and was aired on Fox 14 TV. IBPA is very excited for Kathryn!

Day of the Dragonking and Courier author Terry Irving (Publisher: Ronin Robot Press).
Exciting news for former TV producer and author Terry Irving! His two novels were recently reviewed by Publishers Weekly and one of the two, Day of the Dragonking, was a Starred Review. Called a "smart parody of Beltway life," Publishers Weekly praises Irving for his high-energy storytelling in Dragonking and ability to "maintain momentum well into the next installment." His second title, Courier, was given an honorable mention in the "Wild Card" category at the 2015 Beach Book Festival. Furthermore, the political thriller won the 2015 Indie Excellence Award earlier this year.

IBPA is happy to announce two new Benjamin Franklin Digital Award winners for the month of October! Congratulations to Rick Rowe and Neil Hanson! Rowe received the Gold Honoree title for his enhanced eBook, Game On. Readers follow online gamer Jayden Banks and his best friend Parker Jameson as they go on an epic outer-space adventure. Hanson received the Silver Honoree title for his eBook, Pilgrim Wheels. Called a "terrifically observed story of a bicycle journey," it is a must-read adventure that will stir every reader's soul.

The Sum of His Worth author Ron Argo.
The Sum of His Worth, published by Cliff Edge Publishing, recently won the 2015 Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for Literary Fiction. In this “heartbreakingly real” novel of life during the tumultuous Civil Rights era, prize-winning author Ron Argo goes back to his childhood in supremacist Alabama. The Sum of His Worth is a tension-fueled drama Kirkus Reviews calls "engrossing, profound," one that can only end in tragedy—and hope. Argo is best known for his historical war fiction, Year of the Monkey. The title has garnered reviews from Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal, and many more.

In a landmark partnership, Booklist magazine will begin running a selection of BlueInk’s reviews of self-published titles in its October 1 issue. The venture marks the first time in its 110-year history that Booklist has included self-published titles on a routine basis. “We are excited to be included in this respected magazine’s offerings and will be highlighting those self-published titles that we feel are noteworthy,” said Patti Thorn, BlueInk Review managing partner. Booklist will include reviews of self-published titles recommended by BlueInk on a regular basis.
