Chairman Updates:

The Alliance dues deadline is on February 28. Please remember to put "Alliance for a Healthier SC" in the memo section of your check. If you have questions about dues or did not receive your invoice, please reach out to us. Thank you to all members who generously paid more than their $2,000 dues in 2016!

Alliance Progress Report:

Aunyika Moonan presented the newest iteration of the Alliance's Health Improvement Dashboard. Green marks measures that have improved since last year, yellow measures have stayed the same, and red means that progress has regressed since last year. 

Member Updates

  • Sue Williams, Children's Trust of SC: Sue updated the Alliance on the progress of the creation of the Child Health and Wellbeing Coalition, which as received funding and is in its beginning stages. 
  • Graham Adams, SC Office of Rural Health: Rural Health Action Plan update.
  • Ally Money, Health Sciences SC: Health Sciences SC update
  • Dr. Foster, Alliance for a Healthier SC: SC State University will be joining the Alliance. 
  • David Garr, SC AHEC: Preceptor Teaching Incentive Bill and FAQ about the bill
  • Bruce Snyder, SCMA: Bill Kirkland from the Office of Economic Development will be a speaker at the next Alliance meeting. 
Improving Behavioral Health in SC
 
Three member organizations gave presentations at the October meeting centered around behavioral health in SC:
  • John Magill, SC Department of Mental Health
  • Sara Goldsby, SC Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services
  • Maya Pack, SC Institute of Medicine and Public Health

3 Asks, 3 Gives
Here are three things you can do to improve the health of South Carolinians by the next Alliance meeting. For more information, click here
1. Institute at least one drop-box for unused prescription drugs per county. Click here to see which counties need them, and here for directions. 
2. Encourage all pharmacies to carry Naloxone, making it more accessible to individuals with opiate overuse disorders.
3. Support the existence of Employee Assistance Programs. Find out if your company has one, and if it doesn't, we may be able to help. Reach out here

Through the collective efforts of its members and other strong state and community coalitions, the Alliance is working toward the day when South Carolina leads the nation in the continuous improvement of health and healthcare for ALL people in the state.
