Regional Auditions Information

Greetings NATS Ontario members!

I'm writing today with a *Special Information Newsletter* about the upcoming NATS Regional Auditions. I hope you'll consider sending your students to Regionals this year and I hope that this newsletter will help to facilitate the process for you.

What: NATS Regional Auditions is an opportunity for students of NATS Members to perform and receive written feedback about their performances. Students may register for NATS Regional Auditions regardless of whether or not they sang in the NATS Ontario Vocal Showcase.
Where: Great Lakes Region Auditions will be held at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music.
When: Saturday, 4th March, 2017
How: NATS Ontario members may register their students using natsauditions.com.
Deadline: Registrations must be made by Friday 3rd February and materials must be post marked Friday 3rd February.

Wait. "post marked"? As in, MAILED?
And ... What materials? Yep. You gotta' do some old-school mailing for this:
1. three printed copies of the Judges Comments Sheets for each registered student
2. Teacher Registration Form
3. cheque in US Funds (so, a "check"), if you choose not to use Paypal
4. copies of each registered student's repertoire, if you choose to use a staff accompanist

Talk to me about the money: Teacher registration is 40USD. Student fees are 25USD per student per category (yes - students ARE allowed to enter both music theatre and classical voice categories). Staff accompanist fees are 40USD per student per category, which includes a rehearsal and the performance.

Okay, now talk to me about the prizes: Winners of Junior Categories win 75USD, 60USD, and 50USD (for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively) and winners of Senior Categories win 100USD, 75USD, and 60USD (for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively). In addition, there are five "super categories", the winners of which are chosen during the final concert:
Most Promising in Music Theatre - chosen from among all music theatre winners
Gene Greenwell Award - chosen from among all high school winners
Jon Vickers Award - chosen from among all 1st and 2nd year undergraduate winners
Jessye Norman Award - chosen from among all 3rd and 4th year undergraduate winners
Ralph Appelman and Irma Cooper Award - chosen from among all graduate winners and the winner of the Hall Johnson Spiritual Category

And what will I do with myself all day? Teachers are expected to attend the initial teachers/adjudicators meeting, to adjudicate as assigned, and to attend the final recital. Breakfast and lunch will be provided by NATS.
