Chianni, Italy

€135,000
(151,378 USD)

The views from all of these Tuscan houses I've been finding are too much!
Detached house set in a dominant position with far-reaching views over the Tuscan countryside, set in a picturesque village, with bar and grocery shop.

The property has been recently restored and is well presented. The house is located in a small charming medieval town with lovely piazzas shaded by trees and cobbled lanes with shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Set in the heart of Tuscany amid beautiful scenery and ideal for exploring the cultural cities of Tuscany. There are also several vineyards with wine tasting and hills of olive trees making some of the best olive oil.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside with olive groves, soft meadows and chestnut woods. The little town is perched on a hill with splendid views over the valley below.

Aigues-Vives, France

€120,000
(134,558 USD)

This has such a cozy vibe!

The property looks east on a pretty little square in the centre of the hamlet, with no passing traffic at all. It has a 20m² terrace in front, with oleanders, yuccas and virginia creeper. The entrance is lovely, into a gorgeous white-painted dining area of 14m², with a woodburning stove in a Languedocienne fireplace.

Arches and alcoves add to its charm and bring light into the country-style kitchen with double sink, beams and green wall tiles. The floors are terracotta throughout.

There is a shop, school, bakery/café, two restaurants, hairdresser's, wine caveau and post office in Aigues-Vives, 3 km away; the baker, grocery van and butcher pass regularly. Narbonne is 27 km, Béziers 40 km and Carcassonne 50 km. Airports at Béziers and Carcassonne are approx an hour's drive away, and Spain an hour and a half.

I grew up in a "rambling" old house so I can personally vouch for fact that the games of hide-and-seek are, indeed, epic.

Surely one of the oldest houses in the village, this rambling century old clapboard house was once two houses joined together many years ago. Picture two front doors and two staircases making hide n'seek and sneaking out the house so much more fun! There are a multitude of rooms--on the main floor: living room, study (bonus room), bedroom, galley kitchen, two piece bathroom, pantry and attached wood shed; on the second floor: three bedrooms and four piece bathroom. Also featured is a very cool attic, full height--teenage garret--oh, yes! Amenities include 200 amp service, EBB heating, well & septic (2004). Old wood furnace & oil space heater not functional. Some hardwood & softwood flooring throughout plus metal roof. There is also an additional wooden structure on the property originally a village store (state of repair unknown). A pleasant lawn drops sharply down at the back of the lot to an unnavigable stretch of the Skootamatta River (not owned). No problem--just cross the road and you are right at the Flinton Recreation Area, a delightful spot on the river to cool off. Got a big family? With some spit 'n polish, this historical home might be a good fit! Being sold "as is".

Orsa, Sweden

€400,000 kr
($42,807 USD)

This is the sweetest cottage and right on a lake! Plus, a sauna!

Welcome to a red-painted village in timber. Here the carpenter's joy shines throughout the house with beautiful hand-painted details both inside and outside. Large fine windows to the bay that opens into Lake Orsas. You can take the boat directly from the site out to the lake to swim. Not far from the house is Orsa Camping with sandy beach and many activities. The nearest swimming area is about 200 meters from the house. The house was built in the early 1900's and has since undergone major renovations to keep its old charm and modernize. You are welcomed into a colorful porch with fine paintings that will take you into the residence's hallway with entrance to the living room with kitchenette. The centered fireplace is used for heating with supplementary electrical elements. Before we climb up to the upper level, from the hall, you will find hygiene room with toilet. Once on the upper level, you are greeted by a large, beautiful window section placed against the bay that opens out to Lake Orsasjön. The hall is furnished and takes you into the bedroom with a stove. At the back of the house in the basement level you have a shower and a sauna. On the site there is also a guest cottage for overnight guests all year round with retractable electricity. Welcome to book on view!

Honestly, I'm just posting this for the huge wood and glass cabinet which reminds me of something out of an old apothecary.

Located in an exceptional environment with its facade facing the river. Its flat roof is covered with embossed sheet metal. The gallery is decorated with turned posts, a balustrade and surrounded by mature trees. A huge ancestral home full of history that is sure to charm. Request your visit!

Le Faouët, France

€38,000
($42,613 USD)

I thought this was darling and for the price, come on!

This quaint, character cottage offers good accommodation with a good kitchen through to the lounge with an insert wood burner, then on to the bedroom and bathroom with a separate WC. Above the kitchen there is a mezzanine where you could have another bed or just use as really useful storage area. Outside there is a pretty border to the front of the property so all in all this is a great low maintainance easy to run property! It is set in the heart of the hamlet not too far from the busy town of Le Faouët. I am also told that there is some very good fishing to be had nearby! Septic tank does not conform. No garden just a border!

 Lahave, Nova Scotia

Canada

$199,900 CAD
($148,000 USD)

A wonderful Victorian and so close to the water. Also: those floors!

If you live here in this charming South Shore community, you will have to choose your days activities carefully! Take a delightful one km morning walk to the LaHave Bakery close to the river ferry, a quick afternoon eight km bike ride to Crescent Beach and/or Rissers Beach Provincial Park or a fifteen minute evening jaunt into Bridgewater’s hipster King Street Beer Company. There is solid value in this six bedroom “Lunenburg bump” character home. An additional 27 by 24 barn could be upgraded and utilized for parking, and additional space. A corner of the 1.79 acre lot is attached to the Lily Pond with its ducks just opposite the Fort Point Museum. BThe rolling meadows and wooded natural surroundings will provide peace, privacy and natural serenity for the new owners and can make a beautiful flower garden including the existing fire pond.

Casalbordino, Italy

€108,000
($121,221 USD)

I really love the exterior of this one (and the floors!). It's in a coastal town on the Adriatic Sea.

Characteristic country house with garden and well for sale a few km from the Adriatic Sea and only 11km from the Punta Aderci Nature Reserve (Costa dei Trabocchi). The house has three independent entrances and is on two floors for a total of about 100 sq m. On the ground floor there is a kitchen with fireplace, a utility room and a large corridor with arched ceiling.

The house still retains its ancient charm as you can see in the photos, characteristic ancient floors, railing with particular decoration, fresco of a rose window, ancient arched doors, balcony with capitals and columns and roof jetty with cobblestones. The property has a well and approximately 2,300 sq m of garden.
