Our Winter 2020 Mural Apprentice Program is underway! Participating youth are working with our teaching artist Wakuda to learn how to research, design, and install murals. First up: a nature-themed mural for St. Martin’s on Westlake, which provides permanent housing for chronically homeless seniors. This has been a great collaboration with residents so far- be sure to follow our progress on Instagram.
Come Paint With Us This Weekend!
This Saturday 2/29, we are participating in the Chihuly Garden and Glass event It All Starts with Art, an all-day community arts celebration. We’ll be hosting an interactive mural designed by our youth apprentices- come add some color! All ages and painting skills welcome.
Proceeds from event ticket sales will help fund creative opportunities, scholarships, and programs for youth and emerging artists in the Pacific Northwest. Learn more and get your tickets here.
Big News: Mentorship Program
We are thrilled to announce that we have officially started our Mentorship Program! Teens who have completed our 8-week Mural Apprentice Program now have the opportunity to stay connected to Urban ArtWorks throughout the entire year, developing their work and personal portfolios with the 1-on-1 guidance of a mentor artist. We are incredibly grateful for the leadership and impact of the professional artists who are donating their time to help our young artists prepare for their first gallery show at the Axis Gallery in Pioneer Square in May! Details to come.
