RIP SuperShuttle

The blue airport shuttle buses’ days are numbered: The company is shutting down the service as it faces ongoing competition from rideshare apps. Its last day of operation is on December 31, so have a backup plan during the holiday travel period if you relied on SuperShuttle.


DC pilots free or reduced transit fares

Low-income households are disproportionately reliant on transit—in DC, up to 48% of bus riders are low-income. A new nine-month pilot program will test providing these residents low fare or free unlimited access to bus and rail. While several American cities have limited transit subsidies, so far Kansas City is the only major operator to provide areawide free transit.

Yelp, but for individual dishes—that’s the intention of the new app Simmer, which launched last week. The creators envisioned it to make mom-and-pop shops more visible and unfamiliar cuisines more approachable. So far the app’s launch is just for DC, with plans to expand nationally.

DC Chamber of Commerce President (and former CM) Vincent Orange, Sr. and other local politicians were recognized last week for bringing an MLB team back to the District in 2004 with, among other things, a baseball signed by Nats GM Mike Rizzo and Ryan Zimmerman.
