Maryland goes wide

Maryland voted in favor of expanding the Beltway and I-270, in a bid to reduce congestion that may not end up working anyways because widening highways generally leads to more traffic. The state will process contractor bids and look to conduct an environmental impact assessment before anything actually changes.

Giving us a sign

Septuagenarian environmental activist Andrew Feeney posts up (no pun intended) outside the Capitol South Metro station every weekday that Congress is in session with handmade signs to spread awareness of climate change and its impact. In this interview with DCist, he explains why he believes in the power of signs, who his main enemy is (ignorance), and the futility of fatalism.


The architecture author

James Goode wrote the book on DC architecturein fact, he wrote many. The author and former Smithsonian curator had a fascination with DC’s historic residences, outdoor sculpture and destroyed buildings. He passed away in December.
