Wake to Washington

RIP 2019

Party this year at DC’s most iconic bars. Just think of how amazing it'll be to party at Kelly’s Irish Times or Grand Central DC! The only question is which will you choose?

“This is just people screaming”

Rockville housing forum throws a crowd into that special kind of madness only educational policy can conjure—at one point adults were yelling at a teenager for saying she welcomed more diverse schools. A woman was booed for talking about when Silver Spring integrated its schools.

Metro goes mobile

SmarTrip is coming to iPhones and Apple watches in 2020. If you use one of those products, you’ll be able to upload your SmarTrip into your Apple Wallet, tap your phone at the gate, and when you tap again to exit, your fare will be deducted. No touch ID or other unlocking required.

  • A real downside: Not being able to hang up on your boss/annoying friend/etc by saying "sorry, I don't have service down here."

Play it safe with Cautious Clay

The GW alum with all the right R&B vibes returns to DC to headline the 9:30 Club. (10pm)

A chance for all of us to—er—let our hair down.

Yes it was weird that Cho Chang sort of disappears for the last couple books, but that doesn’t mean the Yule Ball isn’t an iconic part of Harry Potter’s coming-of-age tale. Live the story at Black Cat, with Harry & the Potters, puppet shows, minus the Weird Sisters. (6-11 pm)

[budweiser voice] Wassail!

Carol with 60-70 revelers throughout Bloomingdale. (Saturday afternoon)

Take your ailing houseplant to the medic

The Friends of the Petworth Library are holding a holiday used book sale. On top of the prospect of $3 books (and free DVDs, lol), they’ve also got a houseplant Repotting and Walk-In Clinic courtesy of the Very Sad Lab. (Saturday 11 am-4 pm)

Saturday: A ferment event

Learn to make sourdough bread and kombucha at this event in Park View. You, yes you!, could be DC’s next Bread Person. (1pm)
