No room at the inn

Last Thursday night, a crowd marched down 14th Street carrying signs with the names of the 81 victims who died while experiencing homelessness in 2019. (Other reports count 117 deaths, a five-year high). The vigil, organized annually by the People for Fairness Coalition, is going on its seventh year mourning those who succumbed to the stresses and challenges of housing instability.

Freight fright at Harper’s Ferry

A freight train crossing the Potomac derailed last Saturday morning, causing two empty grain cars to plummet into the water. No injuries reported, thankfully—although it entirely wiped out a section of the Appalachian Trail.
