30,000 reasons to fire Jack Evans
Sketchy at best: An eyewitness says she saw her boyfriend, a lobbyist for a digital media company that has sought legislation in the Council, hand the Ward 2 Councilmember $30,000 in cash. (He also asked her to deliver it at other points.) He might be immune from parking tickets, but not ethics violations.
Here’s to Streets That Don’t Kill People....someday
There was a pretty sizeable rally outside the Wilson Building yesterday to push the Mayor and Council for safer streets faster, after the recent deaths of two cyclists on M St NW and H St NE. DDOT finally made adjustments to the M Street Cycletrack that could have saved a life had it been there a few weeks earlier. Reminder: if you want to report that FedEx truck that’s parked in the bike lane on your way to work, you should sign up for the fantastic Bike Lane Uprising, which recently spread to DC from Chicago.
Theater helps DACA locals find a voice
At theater camp Pasa Nuevo in Columbia Heights, about 80% of attendees are DACA recipients. Many students fear racial profiling, deportation, and separation from their families—Pasa Nuevo is a place where they learn not only how to produce a show, but how to tell their story and release stress.
+ Support DACA neighbors by following the DMV Sanctuary Congregation Network’s request to call Mayor Bowser with a list of clear asks, including intervening with the Fairfield ICE office on behalf of the 12 DC residents detained last week.
No better time to learn the sign for ‘macchiato’
It's inspiring to see such a historic moment brought to light in such a contemporary medium. Enjoy!
